SugarLift TroubleShooting

Is there someone experienced with sugarlift that can give me some advice?

https:// docs.google.com/drawings/d/1rv9awjER7siO8W7zjpP2Xe-cYjhUCAm_cxw6eC1gJ4g/edit

Above is the link for how my sugarlift lifted off the plate, if you delete the gap between the "/" and "docs". (it won't let me post pics or urls yet). When I put the plate in hot water to lift the sugar solution, it didn't come out very true to the painted line. It was pulling some of the hard-ground off around sugar solution line.

Here are my details:
I used the following sugar lift solution:
5 oz. Karo corn syrup
4 oz. India Ink
3/4 oz of tide soap
1/4 oz of gum arabic

I used Universal Etching Ground from Graphic Chemical & Ink Co, straight from the container

I applied the etching ground with a foam brush and let it harden overnight, before I lifted the sugar solution. I was wondering if maybe applying it with a foam brush didn't apply it thick enough, and that's why it was chipping off around the sugar solution. I saw some videos of people who applied it thicker by dripping it onto the plate.
Any other thoughts?
