Re: scape

My first thought was I like it, and enjoy exploring it. Then I get stuck way at the bottom where the high contrasts are. But I enjoy the top part maybe the most, yet theres just not a strong enough reward for looking there to counteract the weight of the very bottom that drags my eyes to the blue and orange and red splotch. Maybe something more at the "horizon", or a different transition, or something higher up to balance? Somewhere to journey to.

Hmmm. Maybe its bc the two sides are about half and half, undecided about what it is. I just scrolled up to crop out some of the bottom part, and if you take out about half, basically the main orange shape and start just beneath the white line, it balances out nicely for me. Hopefully that made sense. I tried cropping out the top similarly but dont like it that way.
Thats just my take.
Fun to explore as is, and as a scape, it plays with the minds expectations.

I think it has always been 600 in this forum for the initial post. But then you can add an attachment in any later replies at 800. Doesnt make sense!

Re: scape

I like it , the orange/blue color scheme is a fav for me..
Is there some glare one the left side?

I agree on something for sky area to balance and with it being the larger area.

Re: scape

Unlike the earlier comments, I rather like the lower two-thirds the best. The upper third's texture has vertical paint edges, which I don't think harmonize with the rest of the composition. Possibly unintentional.

Suggested title: Coyote Failed to Make It Across Highway.

Re: scape

My initial response was, 'how mysterious and intriguing! I love it! I especially love the pull of that enigmatic sky; I want to float off into it.'
After reading through sevan's and JMW's thoughts, I have to say I sort of agree.
The painting does seem to be divided in half between the landform and sky. My personal preference would be to lower the horizon to about 1/3 point. I wouldn't want to lose too much of the orange, though.

Re: scape

Forgive me if I am going too far, but I wanted to see what it would look like with a lower horizon. I'm new to WetCanvas. If this is a no-no, please let me know.

My computer makes everything green.

Re: scape

hey, rat, welcome to WC! and thanks, morphs are welcomed, it's good to get another perspective. the square format you present wouldn't work 'cause i'm not about to dismantle and re-stretch, but lowering the horizon wouldn't be tough to do at all. i'll seriously ponder that.

Re: scape

Hi La. I haven't been on here in ages. To me the bottom part of the painting is the strong point and draws my eye. My thought is if that is waves breaking on the shore, then there needs to be more movement in the rest of the water. But sometimes I don't entirely understand the abstract. I am thinking it could be a storm over water. You tell me what you are going for?

Re: scape

The title implies it isn't "land" scape ...

Also, doesn't seem like "sky" scape ...

Could it be "sea" scape?

Pun intended, the "E" has probably <E>scape<D>?

Re: scape

Lenore! omg'ness, Welcome Back! So nice to see you again!
What i was going for was: lower third land(ish), middle third water(ish); top third sky(ish). I've been tending to get too stripey when i do scapes, so this one broke that up via chaos and blur and random verticals, lumps and x's, which is, apparently, one of the many ways to avoid the chore of reality and edge deeper into the realm(s) of abstract. Thanks for askin'

no worried, Mary, Thanks

Elle, abs scape (tract escaped)

sweet, thanks, Boogie
