Arum trio finished plus WIP xpost OP studio

Here is one that I did yesterday. I had an urge to paint some calla lilies and I discovered a piece of colourfix dark blue I had left over and so decided to experiment. It is painted from my own reference or callas I have growing under the shade of my magnolia grandiflora. They give a great show in spring.
22x32cm. I am quite pleased with it, apart from I wish I had another couple of cms space on the lhs
Strong C&Cs welcomed as I want to do this larger.

Here are some WIP shots
Drawing and reference photo. I bumped up the saturation and contrast in PS, but my printer always gives me prints that are washed out (this is a plus minus thing for me as I want the colour ref but this allows me to be a bit freeer ) - changed the composition slightly due to the size of the paper.

Starting to block in the underpainting.

The underpainting - I used OPs and then washed over with white spirits.

Stage 2 - first layer of colour

Got so involved in it I forgot to take any more progress shots - sorry

Very interesting to see your approach to this Marion - so thanks for the WIP
I really like the contrast and form of the flower cups - also the texture you have with the layering/scumbling ... very nice!

What would you think to a darker b/g at the top? -to give a little more sense of depth there?

Will look good on a large scale

Thanks Maureen. I can see what you're saying about the background although it's not quite so light in real life. I will look at it for a couple of days and see.

Marion, lovely work!! Thanks for WIP! I am sure that when you are on a roll, it is hard to remember to take shots of it!

Thanks Katherine.
Yes, I always start off with good intentions to take shots all the way through but most often get carried away....

Love the form you've achieved with these Lillies. This is going to be a great painting. Good to see your WIP also. Maybe bump up the purple shadow colours a bit, although it's great as it is.

Thanks for the wip with it. It is always nice to see how an artist approaches a piece. Lovely finish.

Wow, what fun seeing it come alive! I love it and especially the texture to the petals.
