I know right where you painted this gem Derek, I have been there many times, the Delaware Art Museum is nearby too with more good stuff, lots of Pyle, and the largest Pre-Raphaelite collection outside of England.
Did you happen to eat at Hank's Place across from the museum, I always do when I am there. It is about 20 some miles from me.
Now I am going to go up there and do this same scene if ok with you, lol.

Hello to all you oily rag type people here too!

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... October 2018

Good Morning Oilycats!!!

Sorry the going is rough right now, Jessicat. Seems like stressedout is the new normal. I hope you are able to get a vacation, even if it is a staycation.

Hi Sid! You live in such a beautiful area, I've always enjoyed the local landscapes you paint.

Bf & I are heading to Palm Springs to do some 'big city' shopping this morning. Hopefully I will be home in time later today to get some art projects started.

Sid, It's so nice to hear from you again! When you go up to paint that scene again, I hope you'll show it online here. The food in that state makes a trip for painting very worthwhile, I think.

I love this season between hot and cold -

"How beautiful the leaves grow old. How full of light and color are their last days." It's a quote from John Burroughs.

Becca, I miss you since you moved out of Kansas and I hope you're getting treated a lot better in that lovely city. Have you found a gallery there yet?

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... October 2018

Nancy, I miss you too...have even considered a visit lately....It's nice here, but have missed my travel the past few years...my Canadian travel has to come first to settle those issues and looks like that is dragging to the end of this year and beyond...Luckily I do have some great friends here..

But, nope, no gallery...and someone had suggested a pop up shop for my inventory, would be a lovely idea, I looked into the fundamentals and the demands both financially and physically would be too much, so considering a virtual version...gathering the strength to post it...I'v pretty much come to realize my art is simply not a marketable item...so will see..

Hi all thanks,
yes, we stopped in NYC for a day and went to the natural history museum with Stapes.
I may feel like going up there where Derek was today or soon and will post it, I haven't painted for a while but I do draw in the sketchbook:

Awww beautiful portrait, and beautiful Molly!

I'm going up to Central Park after work today to paint.
Sid- when you come up we can paint the bridge, there is no bench on that other side tho, we would have to stand.

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... October 2018

Thanks for the comments my Oily pals.
Nancy: yes PA is wonderful and really BIG...if you drive from one end to the other. I love the Amish country.
Sid: we didn't know about Hanks, but we ate at Buckley's. Pretty good tavern food. Looks kinda' like Hank's. Nice portrait and cute kitty.
Jess...are the leaves turning much there? Not so in Jersey.....very late.
Sorry, Sid is not old enough to be a grandpappy.
Why not bring a little fold-up chair to the park one o' them canvas thingys?
We had a kind of sunny day here......still water in the basement from tons and tons of rain.

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... October 2018

Hi Becc, Nancy, Marcia, and Jessica,
I did go there today but it was raining a bit there and the mosquitos were horrible and I was under heavy attack with no defense. I could only get a brief sketch on a canvas and then I left, I will go back next week hopefully and try it out but don't expect anything as good as Derek's
and his is acrylic plein air too.
The girl in the sketch is just some photo I ran across.
Here is that bridge today.

With the ripples in the water and the brown blurry thingy (tuffet of leaves?) looks like some water monster waiting for it's prey...lol...but a lovely scene...

rainy and cold here too... I'm watching people repel down the Broadway building here...

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... October 2018

Those repelers are nutz.
Yes, that is debris, trees and limbs from all the rains, washing downstream.
It is a railroad bridge and I have seen a few other paintings of it in addition to the one Derek did.
Jessica did you get to Central Park?
and believe this or not, I am a great grandfather, three times now.

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... October 2018

On a nonrainy less cold day... I'd love to repel that building.. or even my own, have asked if I could go down with the window washers...but a day like today .. no thanks...

So...debris...lets make it a monster...I couldn't call it a sea monster, but it could have the same presence...

not Jess, but yes she did, saw her plein air...

you have a linage it seems...
