Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... October 2018
Good Morning Oilycats!!!
Nancy and Becca, sorry that you are not feeling all that great. Good luck with the new painting Nnacy, I think giving yourself a November deadline is a good idea.
Becca, I hope that you will share your latest project with us.
Today is the last day of a lonng strenuous weekend. Picking up work at one gallery east of here, and delivering others down in Palm Springs.
Tomorrow is not going to have any unexpected surprises.

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... October 2018
Marcia, I hope you get all the things you need to do done today, so that you can relax for a change. Thanks for the good wishes; I'm doing better today because I'm on my third cup of half coffee/half/cocoa.
But I'm getting evil tiny tics and other stuff from our new kitty, who feels like if I open the front door, he has to rush outside. I take a lot of baths and showers these days!
Becca, thanks for the new October Oily Rag, and I hope you feel better, too! Going to sketch in my painting today, and I think Ill make it a bit different to the original.
Today's cryptoquote:
"October's poplars are blazing torches lighting the way to winter."

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... October 2018
I was busy and think I missed some toward the end of September. Fun stuff though, I did an assignment in which I did a value copy of a master's painting - I chose a Matisse still life - and oh, it was so much fun! And I was able to paint loosely! An absolutely amazing thing!
I hope both Becca and Nancy are on the mend. Becca, being tired can really make a person feel awful - get some rest!
Marcia, I hope you got all the tasks done and are able to take some me-time.
Nancy, try having a treat bag kept by the door. A tasty treat can help entice your kitty to stay inside instead of dashing. It worked for Pearl, at least most of the time.
I found this interesting article that I thought you all would enjoy: https://greatergood.berkeley.edu/art...ng_a_cat_lover

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... October 2018
Annie, I solved the problem with Starshine by simply leaving the door off a lock, so that I could shut the door when I went out. If I'm going someplace other than my yard, I take my key with me so that I can lock it.
Thanks for caring about my health. I keep thinking it should not hurt so much to grow old, but it's so nice to have friends here on line!

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... October 2018
Hi...OCT.= plein air and landscape....oh yeah.
You know: browns, ocher, red, gold, yellow, orange....oh my!
If you get a chance, visit the BrandyWine museum in Chads Ford PA.
Took the family to see the Wyeth collection Jamie, NC, Andrew and some other Wyeth family members. One of my favorite illustrators, Howard Pyle, was also on display. Just down the road you can also visit the DuPont Mansion and they will give your a tour of the grounds, historic rooms, furniture and paintings.
The BrandyWine creek is right next to the museum and I painted an acrylic of the scene about 12x14. (acrylics are allowed here ain't they????)
Cheers, Derek

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... October 2018
Good Morning Oilycats!!!
Beautiful painting Derek! For a few weeks out of the year, I wish I was somewhere that has fall color. Maybe som day I will be able to travel and take lengthy stays.
Annie, thanks for the link, I will look at it soon.
 Hi Jessicat!
Nancy, good luck with Starshine. Marvel does the same thing, dashing out if she gets the chance. Yesterday, I started using the canned air. If I am going out and see her coming, a single pfffsht!, and she scampers off in te other direction. I can't blame her, I like to be outside too!
Hiking group in an hour, so I need to go get ready.

Re: As the Oily Rag Burns..... October 2018
Derek, that's such a lovely painting!!! It inspires me to break out my acrylics - I haven't done acrylics since I worked for the Oklahoman, so I wonder if they're still around here some place.
Pennsylvania is such a wonderful state to visit. The last time we drove through it, I found it hard to believe that everywhere we stopped to eat, the food was so good we thought we'd died and gone to heaven.
The weather is behaving nicely here for plein air painting, and tomorrow I think I'll ask one of my artist friends here to go painting with me. We're also getting some wonderful rainfalls recently. My roses that had not blossomed this summer are now showing some color.
Marcia, that sounds like an excellent way to make Mr. Sunshine step back. He's awfully fast and now you've given me yet another solution. Thanks!
Jessica! How are you doing these days; we don't hear much from you, busy lady.
