Arrow Different Strokes August 2011

WELCOME TO THE AUGUST 2011
edition of Different Strokes!

If you would like to host a Different Strokes, please see the Schedule thread here -
http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=864282
-it is a sticky near the top of the main forum page.

Please read the guidelines below carefully -

GUIDELINES:On the first of each month a reference photo will be posted in a thread entitled "Different Strokes".

Each member interested in taking the challenge will create a painting using the chosen reference (whole or cropped) and on the 20th of each month participants will upload their interpretation of the reference for discussion within this thread, finished or not.

We all paint from the same reference but sometimes a host may include additional images for help, clarity or guidance.

PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD WORK TO THE THREAD BEFORE THE 20TH OF THE MONTH.**

At the end of the month the thread /discussion will be closed and a new challenge will begin.
Artwork can be any size on any surface but MUST be acrylic. Monthly references will be selected by the guides and moderators (but please note the additional comment above).

**Please note, the single 'reveal' date is chosen so that we do not influence each other with our individual interpretations ...... that's the whole point of it being called 'Different Strokes'!

CHALLENGE - if you'd like to try painting this ref in the style of Gustav Klimt, that'd be fun. He's more popularly known for the painting of glittery bejewelled ladies, but I though it'd be fun t' try and inject a little of his exciting style into me strawbs n champers. Here's a link to his biography and some paintings...

http://www.chooseart.net/gustav_klimt.html

The reference picture is my own by me this summer in our garden. Hope you like the subject, we certainly enjoyed it not long after the shutter went 'click'

ENJOY YER PAINTING....

Thank you for hosting, Scatty! Great photos! And Klimt is one of my favorites! (Probably can't duplicate his style though ... but it will be fun trying.)

Scattykat, thanx for hosting, and thanx for the challenge! I have always been fascinated with Klimt's gold plated women. BTW, great choice for the strawberries. Think I'll ask my better half to buy some CA berries and we'll toast your pic and August.

Re: Different Strokes August 2011

Love the straws and shampoo - and I'm nearly finished the punnet of gorgeous ones from M&S, so these have arrived just in time

Love Klimt's work too - will have a thinking session about how I can manage it!

Thanks for hosting Kat

Wow! That is also an exciting challenge. Haha! can we buy some little tile mosaics and just stick them on??

Interesting spoons with the hook ends. Afraid I shall have to fill up those champagne glasses....looks like you've started imbibing already!!

Lovely challenge, thank you.

Re: Different Strokes August 2011

BTW, Scattykat, insofar as I can determine, Klimt never did still lifes! Of course, one could always 'convert' the wine bottle and glasses into female forms, right? I'm already stocking up on gold paint.

Re: Different Strokes August 2011

I have put my thinking cap on but as OH said I can't find any still lifes, this years calendar at the side of my drawing board is Klimt so I like his work although his style is way beyond me thinking , thinking , thinking!
