Re: April Roses ~ W.I.P

Thanks guys

Nitsa I too like the monochrome look but since this is the 2nd of a set of three going into a new gallery (for opening night) I want them to all be sitting well together.

AtrediesNT Thanks. The medium I use is Liquitex Gloss Medium & Varnish. I love it's velvety texture and consistancy.

Re: April Roses ~ W.I.P

Here is the next stage complete with all the underpainting covered. I now have to build up the colour layers to give it better depth and translucency. I have still to re-define the lover blooms centre yet.

The pic below below will give you a better idea of its size. (30" x 24")

Re: April Roses ~ W.I.P

Wow! After stumbling onto this thread quite by accident (I don't even know what forum this is posted under ), I am blown away!

I am so inspired that I want to drop what I have planned for today (cook, cook, cook, and then clean the kitchen..) and head into my "art room" and paint, paint, paint! Who knows, I may even start with an underpainting !!

Thanks for the inspiration and for taking the time to post such a helpful (and beautiful) WIP!!

I wholeheartedly agree. One of the things that I really like about your work is your careful attention to shadows.

Re: April Roses ~ W.I.P

You guys are more than welcome. I am happy to share the progress with you and to think it might actually be of help to someone is just the icing on the cake.

I haven't had an opportunity to paint today so there is no update sorry. Too many chores needed doing. Tomorrow night there should be something to show you so watch this space......

Re: April Roses ~ W.I.P

Your roses are beautiful. I especially like the large scale. I've always been a fan of Georgia O'Keeffe's flowers, painted very large.

Re: April Roses ~ W.I.P

Elaine: Have you ever heard of Winifred Godfrey? Probably not. She's a Chicago artist who does (used to do) flowers, very large, oversized. Your work very much reminds me of hers. It's beautiful! Looking forward to seeing the finished piece.

Re: April Roses ~ W.I.P

I'm speechless! I was admiring the underpainting, and when I scrolled down, the bottom blossom popped, then both...it's really beautiful. Did the colour go on more easily with the underpainting? I think the underpainting helps divide the work.
