Looking forward to our ‘Independence Day’ celebration....we no longer have to utilize the ‘u’ in color!....

At least you got independence in 1776. Canada Day celebrates the day in 1867 we achieved "Semi-Independence". But "Semi-Independence Day" or "Partial Freedom Day" would have been an odd name for a holiday.

Our American daughter-in-law is up visiting for a couple of weeks, so we want to have a nice "American Independence Day" dinner for her. What do think we should make? Burgers? Ribs? Hot Dogs? Barbecue chicken? And what kind of dessert? Apple pie and ice cream?

A late happy Canada day. There was a pancake breakfast here but that's it.

I think it's cool that the queen is our head of state.

Colin... all of the above? lol

Anyone else have internet problems today? I was here on wetcanvas for a while and suddenly got a bad gateway error. Got it on a couple of other sites as well but some sites worked.

I noted a story of 4,000 people forming a giant human maple leaf in Ontario!

Maureen....we wish you all the luck in the world getting your ‘Independence’!

You will be so happy writing ‘color’ instead of that ancient ‘colour’....this is the ‘hip, modern world’....

Sounds lovely and wouldn't that be nice to join in.
Better than around the same amount of people doing a nude swim for the winter solstice in Hobart ( bottom of the earth)

BlueFish, I am with Colour , we have to have small subtle differences, my notion anyways.

Last evening:
I picked up a bottle of water and took a swig... as one does.
The sink was close by gratefully.
Too mean to throw out the last remains of fluid from large spray kitchen and laundry cleaner bottles because they fall easily, so I drain kitchen cleaner fluid into small 600 ml water bottle. I then pull off the tag and stick it to the water bottle.

Last night's occasion, the tag which clearly said "JIF" etc was in a shallow bucket facing down not towards my view.

I had emptied the under kitchen sink because after 23 yrs of service, a new dishwasher was replacing my old friend. Hence the mess and confusion.

I don't recommend saving drops of cleaner fluid. It could have easily been the grandies. I shall never skimp on the dregs -lesson learnt. !!

Agree BUT in the case of ‘u’....utilize it for a more functional word than a silent ‘u’ in color!...like, ‘utilize’....

Oh dear Merri. Maybe just use a different type of bottle, one that you normally wouldn't drink out of. It is a good idea to not waste.

I managed to get a nice picture of Diamond at the beach during a moment of not barking.

Glad you didn't poison yourself Merri .

I don't trust myself enough to use new bottles for old liquids. I am far too absent minded.

Cute dog Michelle. The beach looks nice. Is that on one of the big lakes in Manitoba? You guys in Manitoba have a couple of lakes that are practically inland seas and should count as "Great Lakes".

Similar story but it wasn't me!
Every summer we'd pack up and visit my parents' families in Ireland. I was about 6 and my brother was 8 when we started our international travels. For young kids there wasn't much to do in the city houses so my mother set me up with water colo(u)rs and paper. We had left the drawing room for whatever but I'd left my glass of yellow paint water on the table. My mother told us that she had been thirsty and took a big gulp out of our "lemonade" and she didn't know why we liked it so much! I'm pretty sure I insisted my brother had been using the yellow paint! (I was only six! I couldn't possibly have planned murder that young!) So funny what we remember.

My mother's mother taught us most of our pre-school stuff. I learned everything with "u"s and "s"s and let's just say I was a really poor speller until I took Latin and that all sunk in.

Oh also, my father driving in the car teaching us Irish geography, "The 4 Provinces in Ireland are Leinster, Munster, Ulster and A man fell off a motorcycle....." We were driving by a place where my father witnessed a motorcycle accident and I waited a decade or more to learn Connacht.

I think my brain is getting "old-timers' disease".
