Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

Thank you all for your lovely comments. I so enjoy seeing everyone´s different takes on these challengepic. So interesting to see the different styles. I just finished this little watercolour portrait. Decided to change the colours to show up the kitty a bit better.

Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

Sandie, I like the way you placed the lighthouse further away, making a panorama. Favorite part: the gold in the sky. And the portrait is lovely, with lots of light and personality.

Thanks all for comments on the acrylic fuchsias. They were relaxing to paint. At first when I started looking at Jean Haines' books, I didn't quite appreciate what she said about the relaxing part. But that seems to be happening a bit.

Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

Sandie - I like the way you've handled the sky and sea. The Lighthouse is standing out against the sky and sea making it the focal point - the way it does in reality! Beautiful work.

You've made a masterful job of Hayley and her kitten! Beautiful portrait, looks just like her, well done!

I'm really enjoying seeing everyone's different interpretation of my photos!

Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

Sandie – nice work. You have been busy!

Sanlynn – wow what a beautiful soft interpretation of the rose.

Christel – nice work with Hayley and the kitten.

Marianne – very pretty lily – a nice complementary color to the lily for the b/g.

Cold Press – love the loose version of the fuschia. Beautiful.

Here’s mine of Hayley and kitten…..

Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

Sandie, such a nice and high key piece and I love the delicate touches of wc.

Bunny, your version of her is playing up the red oranges versus turquoise to a good advantage.

Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

Bunny - I like the way you've changed her shirt to orange, it looks great with the ginger kitten!

Here's mine. 30cm x 20cm - Watercolor and a little bit of Inktense pencils for the flower stamens on Arches Hot Pressed Watercolor paper.
I usually do my watercolor paintings fairly quickly, but this time, because I was Hosting, I thought I'd take my time.....so spent several days slowly applying wet on wet washes. Then....I got fed up with all the time it was taking me...and rushed to finish it.... thereby making a mess with some of the petal shadows. That's what becomes of being an impatient person and I've made that mistake before....I'll never learn!

A gorgeous floral, Viv, just luscious yellows playing against the light.

Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

Hi, all!
Sandi, what a nice soft look for Hayley and her kitten. You and Bunny have both done different palettes to the benefit of Haley & her kitty but while different, you both manage to portray their youthfulness, not easy w portraits...
Bunny thanks.
Vivien, I see no mistakes here, I love the abstractness of this as well as your use of shadowing and inktense to portray the airy, dancing lilies! nicely done!

Re: JUNE Watermedia Challenge

Bunny, another great portrait! I like the happy, warm colors you chose -- and the light.

Viv, great floral. My favorite part is the Goldilocks background. Not too plain, not too detailed. Supports the beautiful flowers just right. (I'm just a hobby photographer, but I know that the experts pay a lot of money for lenses that make backgrounds like that.)
