Re: April 2019 Watermedia Challenge

Well, I'm finally posting my 16 x 4 watercolor.

I always wanted to try colorful shadows in a still life; what a challenge!

Very well done, Joy. I can see why it took time. The shadowing is very good. I hope you are pleased with it - you should be.

The eggs sparkle and shine, Joy, what a delight to see! Not an easy ref that's why I didn't tackle it. I hope you frame this for your home. It's gorgeous!

Re: April 2019 Watermedia Challenge

Thank you all for commenting so late after the challenge.

Kay, I was thinking of framing it, as it was a very difficult piece. It seems to me the type of painting of which only a painter would appreciate the difficulty. The general public may feel that it is just a boring picture of egg cups! (Like, why did she paint that?!)

But to you it has meaning and a sense of accomplishment. A difficult subject to do in watercolor and have it turn out this well is definitely frame-worthy as CaliAnn says.

Re: April 2019 Watermedia Challenge

CaliAnn and Kay, you are both such accomplished artists your encouragement means a great deal. Would you have a suggestion on a mat color and frame? A brightly colored frame to match an egg color seems rather garish and childish, but white matting/frame seems rather stark and too much contrast. I would welcome anyone's opinions on this.

Re: April 2019 Watermedia Challenge

As a custom framer I’d go with off white mat and frame.

Re: April 2019 Watermedia Challenge

I second Kay's suggestion. There are some online framers, where you can upload your image, and play around with mats and frames. I do this sometimes, I don't buy the mat/frame from these places, just when I'm not sure how I want to go
