Really great.

I like the blond's eyes. Their look is very pensive, almost nostalgic. That is how I see it, of course.

Great work! I must say I'm drawn to the wc portraits tho I like what you're saying about the markers being stark so no fussing allowed

Re: Otherworlder's sketches 2018

Thank you so much EP and Maria! I really enjoy markers as a medium because they produce such vibrate and saturated colors which I really enjoy, but I find that I only pursue them when forced into it lol.

One more little illustration I fit in at the seam of the sketch book.

This is how it looks in my book. (Yes these are all the same person lol.)

Re: Otherworlder's sketches 2018

Thank you, Maria, Joan, and EP for your comments!

Here is one more illustration; this is my team of heroes from my current video game obsession welcoming a couple new teammates. (Finally unlocked the character! )

Tried some Crayola-like kids' markers. Well, I think they will turn me off of water-based markers for a while. The saturation is nauseating even for me.

Re: Otherworlder's sketches 2018

So I bought a 18x30ml set of gouache for $18 on Amazon. These are the sets I see used in China by art students for their color comp exercises and exams and they are everywhere. I really expected them to be kids' poster paints quality and just wanted to have some gouache to mess around with. Today I cracked them open for a piece and was really amazed by their quality. Really didn't feel all that different from the MG gouache I used before. I foresee a lot more gouache paintings to come.

I enjoy that saturation for the group of people sketch but you as the artist need to be pleased. That's great that you found the gouache and you are enjoying working with it.

Re: Otherworlder's sketches 2018

Thank you very much EP! Yeah, I normally I enjoy bright, bold and super saturated colors, but that particular piece was a little too garish, and I wasn't too keen about those markers lol. The gouache is amazing! I am having such a grand time. Here is one more gouache painting.

Re: Otherworlder's sketches 2018

Another illustration using both watercolor/gouache. I am still struggling with producing a clean, bright, soft skin tone with watercolor, it muddies and darkens way too easily, so had to rely on gouache to fix the little girl's face a little. But still a fun piece to work on.

I don't know much about this style of illustration but these look great. Very interested to hear about your experiences with different markers, paints etc.

Thank you EP and Claudia for your comments!

I saw this really lovely photo from a free photo site, had to paint it! Though I did change the figure's wardrobe.
