I was recently juried for a show, first one... so I did a dry run today. These panels are brand new.

Re: First Show

Are those pro panels? How did the show go and where was it?

Re: First Show

Looking good! The black really makes your bold colours pop!

Will the show have signage on the front of the booth with your name? For shows that don't, I have a pre-printed stretched canvases with my name on it with painting as a background. Just from a photo-printing place but it looks smart.

good luck with the show!

Re: First Show

Good luck with your show. On the east coast all the rage in framing is to use plein air style frames, usually gold sometimes dark stain with gold accents.

Nice setup. Black background works very well.

Good luck with the show ...

Re: First Show

Indoor or outdoor show? I always worry about how stable the set-up is: can it tip if leaned against / gust of wind? Can you add a light bar across the top to make sure these are seen "in the best light" in case you have a dim location? Where will you be sitting? Is your "money box" / computer safe at all times?

btw - your art work is really good, I love the visual arrangement, and I agree the color of the panels is spot-on.

You should do well, congrats

Re: First Show

Thanks guys, I appreciate the good words, we'll see how it goes! It's an indoor show, I'll have lightbars also. Good sugestions greggo, I'll be mindful of those things. A lot to think about for a show hey!

Re: First Show

Not sure how well it would work with your medium, but I found that one of my most successful *tricks* at a show was to have something I was actually working on. I could actually work on it during slow times, put it aside if things got busy. But it tended to get people to stop and watch and often initiate a conversation.

Easier for me as I do a lot of pencil and colored pencil work in smaller sizes so I could manage it with just a clipboard and a couple of pencils, but it might be workable for other things as well.

Re: First Show

The shows I do can get very busy, and for me working on a work in progress wouldn't be practical. The tent can become very crowded. Clearly mark the title of the work along with the price with a small card next to each painting.

If this event is outside and being that you have pro panels, you're bound to get some wind..... if your tent has side panels I suggest to use them to help protect your panels. I also use a stabilizing bar and attach the top of my panels to it.

Have plenty of business cards on hand ....

Re: First Show

Looking good! I have done a show in Cochrane and found the people there very knowledgeable and good customers for art. The questions about whether the show is indoor or outdoor made me giggle. Cochrane is currently under many feet of snow and there is a good chance it still will be in early April best wishes to you!

Hi,

Your work is awesome and the arrangement is quite well-thought (sp?)
Good luck.
