Taking of the Revenue Cutter Eagle On Long Island Sound, during the war of 1812.
Commander of Eagle runs the ship ashore to escape being sunk. Removing some of the ships cannon, he set them up on top of the cliff, and along with some local Militia opens fire on the pursuing Brig HMS Dispatch. The landing party were beaten back and Dispatch withdrew.
Returning the following day along with the Frigate HMS Narcissus, Eagle was captured, repaired and take to Halifax. Her fate is unknown
Here one of Dispatches boats heads for Eagle.

There’s a true elegance and beauty in these. I was raised not far from where this event took place.

Love the sails and the sky on this one.

Very different, but still beautiful water. Such great action in this one and on such a small piece of paper. I see the cannon balls splashing in front of ship on the left.
