This is done with soft pastel pencils,sticks and pan pastels on Uart paper....not as dark as its looks

Love it. But he has sad eyes. Is he old? That's a difficult pose. Love the gray in his beard The pads look great too. Looks like a photo but better *S*

Karen I thought the same thing, He looked like our Lab we had years ago but he was a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. This is the picture the daughter in law gave me to paint for her in laws for Christmas... It was a challenge.

What a beautiful Lab. So sorry for the loss, but your portrait is such a wonderful remembrance of him. I'm sure he was greatly loved.... and sorely missed. Great job!
