Our local fair is having a special section in the Fine Arts division for sunflowers so this is what I managed to do; 11×15 Brusho/watercolor on Lanaquarelle 140 lb hot press paper begun yesterday then completed today. These imaginary sunflowers were negatively painted with a 1″ flat brush. Brusho was applied first to a very wet blank sheet using Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Moss Green, and Gamboge, then plastic wrap put on top and let dry overnight. That was removed and then blooms, petals, and leaves were painted around doing their edges until a composition emerged, so no pencil drawing and no reference used. Burnt Sienna Brusho made very nice sunflower centers.

November 26, 2019 at 4:35 pm #879496Wow! Just seen this, it’s beautiful, I love how you have painted them so loosely!
Now why don’t my Brusho paintings come out like this?I really was actually going to throw mine out, but on reflection I should experiment more with them.
Thanks for the inspiration you have given me.Cheers Rosie.“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” ― Pablo Picasso
