Good morning all
Went bed after midnight after watching the finish of the snooker match on TV.
I played much better snooker yesterday
We are getting excited, Peter is flying over for 10 days working in the North Wales factory. He arrives tomorrow. Must change the bedding.
The good news from Char continues, sounds like Ted is making steady progress.

We must leave our mark on this worldJanuary 18, 2020 at 5:38 am #934406Good Morning all,
It is just past 5:30 a.m. on a wet and dangerous driving morning here in Oakwood. It has rained all night and the roads are shining as if they are a sheet of ice. We won’t be driving anywhere, but I worry about people, like my daughter Kari, who will be on their way to work.Annie, I’m so glad the rains have come and things will begin to grow again and your water tank is full.
Sharon, I hope the results of the skin tests comes back negative.
Doug, I bet Peter enjoys these stays with you too.
Johnnie, so sorry you are in pain with the broken pelvis. :o
to all on their way.

Sylvia
January 18, 2020 at 6:08 am #934432Morning all. How exciting, Doug, to be seeing Peter again.
Johnnie, our boiler cut out overnight so it’s a bit chilly here too. Hope you can heat up your mobile home quickly.
Annie, I never thought I’d be so pleased to hear about rain.
Sharon for the biopsy results.
Carol, your mention of Carnegie took me right back to my childhood. Whenever the subject of money came up in our house my mother would respond with “Who do you think I am, Carnegie’s wee sister?” We lived in a steel town, and Carnegie’s success was the stuff of legend.
Marshall, I wish your daughter every success. I was accepted for physiotherapy school, but I changed my mind and studied maths and economics at Uni instead, because one of my teachers encouraged me to do so. And that’s where I met my husband, so it was a good idea!
Hugs to Char and Ted. It’s times like these, Char, that having art in your life to bring you joy when you need some respite from your worries and chores is such a blessing. I’m sure that you are precious to your students as they are to you. I can remember my delight in having my first shower after I ruptured my knee. (Since then we’ve installed a walk in shower and I love it.) I hope Ted is getting the best of care and those potassium levels start to come down again.
Sylvia, one of the joys of retirement is not having to go out in all weathers.
I was really pleased with myself yesterday. My washing machine leaked all over the floor. Fortunately my OH had left a pile of towels on the floor ready to go in next and they soaked up the water, so it didn’t go far. I Googled the problem and it suggested inspecting the soap powder drawer cavity to check the water jets weren’t bunged up as this can cause leaking. I’d read this before and noticed that the front of the machine was wet above the door when I took the washing out. A good scrub all round and a bit of vinegar spray on the drawer to get rid of the hard water build up and the problem was solved – I tucked some kitchen paper under the edge of the drawer to check.
The chap on Youtube had suggested mould can build up in the drawer space but in our case the problem is hard water, which is why we put salt in our dishwashers in the UK. Who knew that a washing machine could flood the floor from the soap drawer? I’m so pleased that I didn’t call the engineer out at great cost. I love Mr Google 💕.
Mr Que Sera has just brought me a cup of coffee. Love him too 💕.
Must go and deal with the emails that have been pinging in while I’ve been typing!
Greetings to all who wash up later.

January 18, 2020 at 6:36 am #934434Good morning all, to those who wash up later on the tide, and huggles to all who need them :grouphug:
Clear blue sky here. Rather on the chilly side, but the sun is shining.
Char, that’s such good news that Ted’s feeling so much better. He’ll feel so much better in himself too after having a shower.
Well the good sleep on Thursday night made no difference to the daytime sleeping yesterday. I am trying to get myself into a schedule of going to bed earlier at night, but it’s a struggle because I’m naturally a night-time person, and the earlier I have my medication and go to bed, the earlier I wake with my body demanding medication the next morning.
I’m only going to whisper it, because if I say it out loud something will happen, but after managing to do the bits and pieces I’ve not had chance to do all week, I’ve got very little to do this weekend, so I’m hoping to get plenty of painting time in.
The couple of things I’ve got to do are an online supermarket order, and I also need to sort out the servicing for my Closomat toilet (they’re also known as ‘shower toilets’ because they wash and dry you, similar to a bidet, but all done automatically with the push of a button).
The first year I had it, it was under warranty, but since then I’ve been on a 3-year servicing and repair contract, which is over £200 a year. When the engineer came to do it’s annual service in December I was at work that day. It was working perfectly well, but when I got back from work my dad said the engineer had tightened up the joint on the movable arm rests to the point where it was really hard to move them (fortunately my dad found a spanner that fitted, and managed to loosen it off a bit). Also since the service, the warm air drying at the end of the wash-dry cycle has been cold air, which really doesn’t dry properly. It’s at this time of year, after the service, that I get the invoice for the forthcoming year’s service/repair cover, but as it’s the end of the 3-year contract they’ve also sent me the paperwork to extend the cover for another 3 years. Apart from £200+ a year being an awful lot of money, call me cynical, but it seems a little odd that prior to the engineer’s visit the toilet had no problems, but afterwards had mysteriously developed a couple of problems just at the time the service contract was up for renewal.
I need to check if other companies, or just an ordinary plumber would be able to do the servicing and any repairs needed, so I need to have a trawl around the web. Closomat are very specialised bits of kit, and I know the company has a network of engineers across the country, but I’m not sure paying £200+ a year for someone to come and look at it and pronounce it okay (it’s never had any problems before) is good value for money.
Back later!

C & C welcome!January 18, 2020 at 6:46 am #934435Morning all. 6:30 am here and a cool 60 0utside. Windy and rainy today with more rain tomorrow morning as the cold front moves in. Supposed to turn cold next week with temps down around 30 in the middle of the week.
Doug, I’m glad your Snooker is improving. How much trouble did you get into with SWMBO for the broken tail light?
Johnnie, I hope the pain subsides and you heal faster. My mom broke hers about 12 years ago and she is now 92. She has dementia but I don’t think that is related.
Sharon hope all is well with you. A new dermatologist may provide a new perspective.
I’m glad to hear that you got rain Annie. Hope that solves all of your fire issues.
Sylvia, I’m glad you are staying off the roads. When do parents stop worrying about their kids? My oldest is 29 and his job has him driving all over the place and sometimes going into questionable areas of town. I still worry. I was a Police officer in younger years so I have seen a lot and now I worry about them because I have seen what can happen.
QS, sorry that you are without heat. Hopefully that will get fixed quickly. Physiotherapy school huh? We looked at one program in Edinborough but she decided not to go overseas. Glad it worked out for you and you met your husband by not going into physiotherapy. I was working security at the hospital when I had to escort a troublemaking patient down for therapy and that is how I met my wife. The 28th of this month will be 36 years of marriage and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.
Going to meet my youngest daughter at the coffee shop in another hour or so.
Hi to all those that wash up later.
Stay safe,
Marshall

Marshall, I think the answer is “Never”. Our youngest just had his 50th birthday and I worry about him getting injured at work. Daughter Kari sent me a message on Facebook that she arrived safely at work so I wouldn’t worry.
Hope your daughter gets accepted in the school she wants to attend.
QS, Good job on solving the leaky washing machine problem. Isn’t it great to be able to research the web and find help to do things like that.
to all I missed, time to wake up Larry and get breakfast on the table.

Surprisingly she didn’t give me any heat, she had a bump reversing off the drive a few years ago.
Bright sunshine here, off to make an apple pie and chocolate cake.

We must leave our mark on this worldJanuary 18, 2020 at 7:20 am #934433Marshall, are you saying your wife was the troublemaking patient – or a member of staff?
Sylvia, way before Facebook and indeed mobile phones, I used to give my mother “three rings” on the landline to let her know I was home. She didn’t answer so it didn’t cost anything. Nowadays my boys will sometimes text me the phrase “three rings” as a relic of the past.
OH has reset the boiler and all is well.

January 18, 2020 at 10:05 am #934418everyone,
I had to rush out the door this morning just after getting up. My DIL needed me to drive her to the hospital to visit her grandmother who was admitted to the ICU in the night after having a stroke. I went with her and stayed awhile but her grandmother is doing well all things considered so I came home. No gym for me this morning because I have to wait for a call from her to bring her home.I’m having breakfast and checking in here then I’ll get started on my chores.
Annie – hurray for rain.
Johnnie – I hope the pain gets better soon
Doug – enjoy your son’s visit.
QS – glad you were able to solve the problem with the help of google.
Enjoy your weekend everyone.

January 18, 2020 at 10:09 am #934412Good Morning! Winter has arrived for a few hours. It’s snowing to beat the band and about 3 or 4 inches has accumulated. I’m not driving to town, battling the snow packed and slippery roads to sit in a chair and stare at my Husband’s handsome face.
We’ve talked on the phone and he welcomes the peace and quiet, planning to nap most of the day. He doesn’t sleep well in hospital because of all the commotion. His bloods are drawn every four hours now, and his vitals are taken at the same time. His blood pressure is still really low and his sugar dropped through the basement again this morning. No one seems to know why this is happening. Most of his previous meds have been cut way back for now, so it’s possible that something else is happening. He didn’t get moved to Medicine but is still in P.C.U.
I’ve tidied the kitchen and vacuumed the floors. I’ll get the bathrooms cleaned in a few minutes. It feels good to get the house in order. I always love coming home to a clean house after a stressful day. I might even drag some paper and paint up here to the family room. It’s pretty chilly down in the Studio and if I don’t need to run the mini furnace, I won’t spend the money on the extra hydro! And, up here I can watch the snow coming down. As much as it’s a nuisance on our roads, it’s pretty to watch it coat everything in its path.
Doug for Peter’s return so soon after the Christmas Holiday!
((Sharon)) Are you unhappy with your dermatologist?
((Johnnie)) I’m sorry you’re in such pain.
Again… Oh Happy Day! Annie, it sure feels good to read this wonderful news from you.
Sylvia, the beauty of retirement is that we never actually have to be anywhere during inclement weather (except for our plethora of Dr.’s appointments). Like you, I never stop worrying about the kids… even those who’re not my own. Simon worked until 8:00 this morning and should have been home by 9:00. He’s not here. Now I’m pacing.
QS… good on you for getting the leakage problem taken care of! I always rely on Ted to do those kinds of things and when he’s not here, I panic. I can do it. But it sure takes some self confidence to force me into it. I sure hope your heat gets turned on!
Rachel, your Closomat toilet is something I’ve never heard of and it sounds like such a good thing… environmentally friendly too because there wouldn’t be rolls and rolls of tissue being flushed away.
Marshall, your previous job would be akin to my Paramedic Husband and Son’s experiences. They know.
Ellen, I do hope your DIL’s Grandma will recover. Strokes are debilitating even when everything seems to have repaired itself. Oh… and thanks so much for the eye info. It’s terrific.
All yet to come. ((hug)) All who’re just feeling icky. :grouphug: Everyone. Have yourselves the very best possible day.
