Studies

Sometimes I like to think of small studies as diary entries more interesting to me than my verbal thoughts of the day. The second and third are from the same photo reference. They are watercolors modified with white gouache. C&C Welcome.

Very nice, each one. Beautifully painted trees and nice solid compositions.

Re: Studies

Charming little paintings Gary. That first one is so appealing to me with the cool colors of the foreground trees against all that warm light. Really nice!

Re: Studies

Love the light in the first one, and that Midwestern feel and sense of location in the second two.

Thanks Heather. I still am tempted to call you Lucy. If I do so, please forgive. Gary

Re: Studies

Lovely colors in all 3. The last being my favorite as I love your rendering of those trees. Their shape, design & color all come together nicely - Well Done !

Michael.

Re: Studies

Lovely colours - i paint from photos and from quick pencil sketches and notes - but I am starting to use very quick reference studies just to catch the values and colours as I see them. These are lovely examples of what I want to do more!, Thanks for sharing.

Re: Studies

Good to see your studies Gary. I am a great believer in a painting diary, it records days and moments that really do take you back to that day so well. You can also make notes on colours etc too. Nice perspective on the second farm buildings too.

Re: Studies

Your skills as a paint mixologist shine through again, Gary. I am sure you could paint with house paint and make a success of it! I especially like the light in the first and the selection of trees in the third.

Re: Studies

Thanks Caroline. I do love to remember places.

Thanks Bizzibee. It is hard for me to paint trees that I thinning out for the season. I try every Autumn to do a painting like the third.

Thanks again. Gary
