My favorite because it was a birthday present for my sister - it is her kitty that passed away this past November. 8X10 - she is holding a milk jug ring - very typical of her!

Re: Scratchboard Hall of Fame 2009

This is the largest board I've worked on 24x36. I've done another this size now but this is the first. I entered it in our local county art show in November and it got the Blue ribbon in it's category. The category was basically for things that weren't paintings or drawings. I called it Mamma's Boy. I had to enter as a
non professional. After the show several pieces of art are selected to stay over for an extended viewing period, about a month. The show is held in one of the banks downtown. I was told that it received more comments than any other piece of art that was selected to stay over. Perhaps because it was a little known medium, maybe not, but I was quite proud to hear that.

Re: Scratchboard Hall of Fame 2009

This was a 120 hour piece 16x20. Done after reading about H.R. Giger (airbrush artist that created many of the sets for the movie "Alien") Giger said that often times he starts in the upper left hand of a canvas and just starts painting. That's how I did this. I would scratch in some.... stuff. Then quickly sketch what I had done and design some more. Add that. And sketch some more. I feel like I was in the art zone and did a nice fairly tight drawing from a loose concept. Titled "Belt Driven"

Re: Scratchboard Hall of Fame 2009

this is the one that has shown me that simple is better and that you don't have to spend 3 months on a piece to have success! This piece won Peoples Choice Award and Purchase Award so was a very happy lesson indeed!

Re: Scratchboard Hall of Fame 2009

These pieces are all incredible. I've never heard of scratchboard before but I have the perfect picture I'd like to do of it. I have a question though and that it how do all of you upload your work so it still looks so good on this site. I scan mine and it always comes out fairly grainy, slight color changes and really does no justice to the original. Could it be my scanner? Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Scratchboard Hall of Fame 2009

A big chance it's your scanner. I seem to have no problems and mine cost $70. I guess you could also use photoshop or gimp (which is free) to adjust your work on the computer so it shows more like it really is.

Re: Scratchboard Hall of Fame 2009

I have a Canon CanoLideScan 90 which costs me about $100 bucks or so and I have photoshop elements 8 but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I do a lot of colored pencil and I notice a lot of others seem to have the same problem. Wish I could find a solution but thanks for the comments. Much appreciated.
