I’m a little confused as to the uploading size limits. I watched the uploading tutorial which specifies no more than 800 x 600 pixels but the open critique uploading form asks for 500 x 600. Is it OK to post the larger size in there? It does make a considerable difference. Thanks…

500 x 600 is a historic maximum size, it is now 800×800 max. Open Critiques may have its own standard, best ask in Open Critiques.
