Hi everyone
Just recently finished a paper sculpture of a Mandarin duck that I wanted to share.
Mandarin Duck in White
Specifications: 30″ x 15″ paper sculpture
Card stock and other papers on mat board
Reference photo credit: Terence Porter, used with permission
This project began last fall as a colored pencil construction, using gray and beige mi-teints paper to boost the color and values of the feathers. They were then cut out and glued to a card stock support. This is as far as I got with that approach:As I worked, the project went in a new direction. I liked the symmetry and detail captured in the reference photo and thought an all-white paper sculpture would make for an interesting interpretation. Much as I love the rich colors in the photograph, i couldn’t resist the challenge of the road less traveled.
Thank you for looking in and your comments/critiques are warmly welcomed.

January 14, 2019 at 8:15 am #761941I think you made the right decision doing it in all white, but if you had used cp I think you would have had just a different but still stunning result as in the all white version. You must have felt really thrilled putting the final pieces in and seeing this spectacular end to a beautiful sculpture.
