We must leave our mark on this worldJanuary 16, 2020 at 3:07 am #933415Evening Doug and all following.
Char, my heart went into my mouth with your initial posting. It’s back in place now. Just hugs.
It rained here. Overnight and most of the day. More is forecast for another week. tanks are nearly full again and we even planted some grass seed.
Even better, good rain is falling on the fire grounds down south.
Wallabies and screechies are fed. Cats have had the emptiness of their soul filled. Time for us to eat

That’s a qwerty keyboard and fat fingers for you, Annie. You are very observant, I read it as the 16th! A typo is never as much fun as a good old autocorrect.
Good news about the rain.
Better news, too, from Char last night.
Bon voyage, JJ.
Marshall, ‘fess up, what are the new books you’re having delivered? You’re palette, pictured in The Learning Zone is looking good.
Bill, I thought you were maybe a two palette guy. Just loved seeing your collection. Welcome to my world. The good news is I haven’t joined “Palette Addicts” because I haven’t ordered a brass box :clear: .
Art clas was interesting yesterday. We had a new tutor who was excellent, even though he hadn’t taught us before and was a bit unsure. He was working with Interactive Acrylics. I almost didn’t go as I don’t have any of those but I took my watercolours and did my own thing, not very well, but it was interesting, and I learned things.
My friend in the group couldn’t believe that I’d passed up the chance to indulge in our mutual hobby of buying art supplies. I told him not to worry as I was still adding to my book collection.
Greetings to all still to wash up on the shores of Wet Canvas.

January 16, 2020 at 5:49 am #933410Good day all,
Couldn’t sleep much. The weather worries me and now another storm is heading our way.
Annie, I seem to have forgotten the 23th. No grudges I hope.
QS, there are a couple I left out of the collection. I should sell them or give them away as I’ll never use them.
Char, hoping the news keeps getting better for Ted.

January 16, 2020 at 5:59 am #933403Good Morning all,
It is 6:00 a.m. here in dark and chilly Oakwood. You would think it was January or something. The white squirrel seems to have settled somewhere in the area. We see her out in the back every afternoon now. I just hope the hawks in the area don’t notice her. Funny thing is that daughter Kari, who lives in the next town to the east of us, stopped in the other day and showed me a photo of a white squirrel in a tree in her back yard. She said there are 3 of them who seem to live in a tree across the street from her house.
Wonderful news from Char yesterday afternoon. If Ted was able to enjoy his lunch as she said he did for the first time in a while, he must be feeling somewhat better. I hope you got some good sleep last night Char.
Good news from you too Annie. The rains are falling where they are desperately needed. (I fixed the “th” in the date. )
Bill, Wow, I thought I was bad with my two John Pike palettes. You’ve got quite the collection!
QS, Glad you enjoyed the art class. Even if he was talking about acrylics, I would think some of what he was saying could apply to watercolors too.
to all,
SYL,
Sylvia
January 16, 2020 at 6:44 am #933420A good Thursday to all……chilly and still drizzling here. Will be one of those blah days.
Will run a few errands today….tonight it will be either potato soup with sour dough bread or fried rice and Wanton soup from our favorite Vietnamese restaurant (he uses smoked turkey in his Wanton…absolutely to die for)….haven’t decided yet.
Hope we have good news from Char sometime today…….
JJ……safe flight and enjoy your journey.
Annie……..yay for the rain.
Cats are demanding breakfast….via the 8 claw argument method. Breakfast and meds for me. Lisa should be rising soon………….Greetings to all here and those to come……….may your day, evening or night be fulfilling.
Be good, do good…….

January 16, 2020 at 7:21 am #933426Good morning All. Supposed to rain here some today. But I won’t be here. I’m driving my oldest daughter down to Clearwater (about a 4 hour drive) for an interview for her Doctorate. She is trying to get into various physical therapy programs around the state and NOva requires an interview. Going down today so that we are not rushed tomorrow and contribute to her anxiety over this.
Char, sounds like you have so good new on Ted. I’ll have to go read the last of yesterday’s wash to catch up. Glad he is doing better.
Enjoy the rain Annie. I don’t know about her soul but I can never get our cat’s tummy filled. When she gets hungry she starts knocking things off of counters if we don’t feed her quick enough.
QS, the books are Artist’s Painting Techniques and The Complete Guide to Watercolor. Both are done by DK and will be going on the trip for reading material.
Morning Bill, Sylvia and Steve. Hopefully I haven’t missed anyone.
Stay safe.

Living the retired life in NE FloridaJanuary 16, 2020 at 7:26 am #933424Good morning all, to those who wash up later on the tide, and huggles to all who need them :grouphug:
Special hugs to (((Char and Ted))) :grouphug: I’ve just caught up with yesterday’s happenings after not managing to make it to the Wash yesterday, and it’s good that Ted’s health is showing an improvement.
JJ, I hope you have a great trip.
I had a reasonable day yesterday, except for the falling asleep at the drop of a hat so not making it here. I’ve finally finished my latest work project collating details of all our blocks of flats and working out which electoral ward each is in. Some have been rather complicated, and I’ve had to get the details of the block up on the Housing management system, Google Maps, and an Ordnance Survey online map of electoral districts all open, where the boundaries of the electoral districts run right down the middle of a road or where one crosses a road to check which side of the road the property’s on, or the house numbers on either side of the boundary. When I’d done the details of all the blocks and thought I’d finished, I did discover I’d managed to ‘lose’ a block, which took some time to track down, but all the numbers match now and all is well.
The contractors who’ve been to look at the porch roof have just left. They checked the roof and discovered that the UPVC roof panels had slipped slightly and there was a 10mm gap at the top of the sloping roof where it meets the house wall. You couldn’t see daylight or anything – the panels had just slipped down the UPVC rafter at the top of the roof, so when it rained heavily, as it had both times recently when it’s leaked, the water was hitting the top rafter and running between the UPVC rafter and roof panels and then dripping through on the inside. They’ve pushed the panels back into place, and sealed all around the roof with silicone again.
Fingers crossed that this solved the leaks once and for all!
I’m going to go and put a couple of hours work in as it’s this month’s PPG meeting on Monday afternoon, and if I do a couple of hours today and make an early start on Monday morning I won’t have to rush back after the meeting to do any more work on Monday afternoon.
This afternoon we have someone coming out from the company I’ve always had my wheelchairs from to measure up the stairs and give us a quote for a new stair lift. At some point this year I’m going to be replacing my wheelchair, so I might see if they’ve got any wheelchair brochures, as I have a lot of damage on one of the armrests from trying to get through the fairly narrow doors at work (if I don’t get my approach angle dead on straight, the armrest catches on the door frame, as there’s only around half an inch clearance at the side of the wheelchair) and I’ve also managed to damage one of the footrests. Where it joins onto the front of the wheelchair, the whole metal fixing is bent out of shape, which is making the footrest fall lower than the other, and it catches on the ground on a slope or ramps. I think I did it a few weeks ago at work when I managed to get the footrest tangled with one of my desk legs in the office and not realising, tried to reverse and ended up dragging my desk out of place with my wheelchair. It’s also fairly wide, so although it’s got a very tight turning radius, so I can turn it really easily (it more or less turns on a sixpence due to having a central drive wheel), it’s width means I can struggle to get into tight spaces. It’s 11 years old though now, so it’s done really well. I’ll have to wait a couple of months or so though, as I wasn’t planning to replace the stair lift, so I’ll need to replenish my piggy bank!
Back later!
Rachel

C & C welcome!January 16, 2020 at 7:38 am #933399Hi Rachel, we have a lightweight folding wheelchair and last year we bought a folding electric wheelchair which is very good and easy to fold. It has lithium batteries which means it is light and has a range of over 10 miles. The removable batteries are in the frame and are very light.
Here’s a video which may be useful to you. The second chair reviewed seems identical to the Instafold. the chair is demonstrated at 12min 30 secs or so.

We must leave our mark on this worldJanuary 16, 2020 at 8:14 am #933407Good Morning Wash Gang! It’s still dark as a witch’s heart out my window. While the thermometer claims it’s above freezing, the cold wind is raw and making it much colder. It rained on the way home from the hospital last evening with no more rain expected till Saturday.
The Thames River is flooding its banks again. It has not peaked yet.
I’m heading to the hospital shortly. I’m going to take Ted his phone. Hooked up to so many tubes and wires, he cannot easily get to the landline beside his bed. Because his BP continues to be really low, he’s not allowed to get up and about anyway. The two older boys were able to talk to him last night, though. Nurse Adam helped move the phone and got Ted sitting more upright. And, Ted’s best friend Wayne visited last night. He called me and said that he’d be visiting again tonight. Two remarkable men… Wayne is a cancer survivor who was given an 8% chance of surviving his colon cancer. I also need to bring in some pajama bottoms, but not the shirt. The Nurse said there are just too many wires connected to his chest. Hopefully, that will just be a short term thing. Also, Nurse Adam told me that I could bring the glucometer that reads from the patch. They’ve been sticking Ted’s fingers every few hours again, monitoring his blood sugars.
Doug, what is your group painting on this 16rh of January?
Oh Happy Day!, oh happy da-ay… Annie!! Sewing grass seed must also be sewing joy in your heart.
QS, may the inventor of autocorrect resist in restaurant.
Bill, what a wonderful collection of palettes!! You need to post your photo in the Palette Addicts thread!
Wow, Sylvia, what are the odds that both you and Kari are home to white squirrels?
Two delicious choices, Steve! I’m craving the carbs, so the potato soup and sourdough bread would be my favourite.
Best of luck to your Daughter, Marshall! You must be very proud.
I hope that fix to the roof solves your leaking problems, Rachel!!! Most buildings are really not designed to accommodate disabled people. What a shame that your chair gets damaged because of the narrow spaces.
to All yet to come. ((hug)) to All who’re feeling under the weather. I must get out the door and hope to be able to post later in the day. that Ted’s potassium levels have come down again. In the meantime, have yourselves a happy and creative day!

January 16, 2020 at 8:40 am #933412Just had a short snow flurry, but the sky is brightening again. Grocery morning, and dancing this afternoon, if I last that long! Have been waking up early to see some of the Youth Olympics from Lausanne, and seems it is a habit now….will need a nap after dancing so I can watch skating here at home this evening. All this watching is helping me get some knitting done. I may be able to see my new GGS on Saturday
Thanks for all your kind words re him, it is an exciting time for us.
Had good news on my visit to the specialist this week, only AFib at the end of my stress test, the rest of the time it is stray beats…non-pathological they say….darn nuisance I say! but only if they become continuous do I need to go back to her. Still, I was able to do my favourite dance all the way through last Thursday, so hope that’s true today too.
So glad Ted is doing better now, I hope this is just a beginning of an upward trend Char :grouphug: The river looks pretty bad Char, I hope this is the end of all the rain. Flooding here but not nearly so bad. I’m glad your basement is dry.
Grass seed Annie!!!
Love all the palette stories, I don’t have that many Bill, but couldn’t resist in my early WC days either. There is a stack of them somewhere here My favourite now is a small black metal one with half pans as well as whole ones, I can get in my usual palette colours and it has a flip out pallet leaf as well as the lid so there are two sides for mixing. It’s great for plein aire, even a thumb ring on the back.
Hope you have survived the snow dump Betty, I remember those snows on Vancouver Island, we had them in the 50’s and 60’s. Here is my dad, digging out the woodpile at Brannen Lake.
Interesting about the white squirrels Sylvia, we only have black or grey ones here, very rarely one with a red tail.
Good luck with the chair and the stairs Rachel.
Greetings to all here and all to come! :grouphug:
Cheers, Lynn

I gave them a choice of an exotic bird or a tram scene. Most chose the bird.

We must leave our mark on this worldJanuary 16, 2020 at 9:13 am #933409everyone,
Cold but the ice crystals in the air (like fog but made up of suspended ice crystals) are clearing and I can see a bit of blue sky.I’m going to go back to the gym this morning for the first time in about 6 months. It’s so easy to get out of healthy habits. I’m going to start slowly all over again. This afternoon is an opening of the Northern Ontario Art Association’s travelling show. My oil painting of Matteo is in it.
I’m going to start using my first box of prepared meals tomorrow. Lots of new ingredients I haven’t tried before. I hope Brian likes them. He isn’t one to experiment.
Char – send Ted our love. I hope he continues to improve quickly. Nice that friends can visit.
Annie – the rain must feel so good! I hope it continues so the grass seed sprouts. How do you keep the wildlife from eating the seeds?
The morning is ticking away so I better get moving. Have the best day possible everyone.
