Re: How many colors on your palette?

I lied in the poll. I chose 5-6, but black and white aren't technically colors. My gouache and acrylic are each three primes (cyan, magenta, and yellow gouache and red, yellow, and blue acrylic) and black and white. My watercolor pencils don't qualify because they are a palette and because you didn't have a number high enough for them.

Re: How many colors on your palette?

Here is a handy tool to determine which paints you should have on your palette depending on your skill level and subject matter:

Re: How many colors on your palette?

I only use permanent, single pigment paints, and have 3 palettes. One is the small Winsor Newton Field Kit, with 13 colors; with that I also carry a "supplemental palette," 8 half-pans and 4 pans in a small clear plastic case, for a grand total of 25 in my "Everywhere Art Kit". My studio palette, with a total of 29 pans and half-pans, duplicates these 25, but adds 4 half-pans I very rarely use.

I like that tool to choose paints (above)!
