Re: First one as "Lefty"... I broke my painting hand...

I think it's wonderful that you're trying to paint with your non-dominant hand! The paintings that come forth could very well be some of your most unique - keep going for it. Love the soft look and sweeping motion to the one you posted. You're going to look back on the paintings you produce during this time with pride and a special fondness.

P.S. As a funny side note - every now and then I used to practice the piano with my toes...just in case something ever happened to my hands, hehehe. You could try a few feet/toe paintings while you're at it.

Re: First one as "Lefty"... I broke my painting hand...

Thanks so much for your feedback, everyone! I am certainly feeling encouraged...

I have a trip to the Doc tomorrow to see how long this situation will last. I have been on tenterhooks all weekend....

Wow, that looks great. I wouldn't have a hope of painting with my left hand.

I am right handed as well and can't imagine ever having to paint "lefty". I think this is very well done and I give you lots of credit for even trying it!

Re: First one as "Lefty"... I broke my painting hand...

like you, i've been painting with my left hand. as a former abex painter, i never included drawing in my artwork. now after my injury, i find myself drawing and applying paint with my left. now, there is a "looseness" in my gesturing, i would've never tapped into from my right hand.
my "artistic father", W. DeKooning, often drew left handed and sightlessly. i challange you to continue using your left even after your right fully recovers. i'd love to know of your progress; my email is [email protected] if you care to share.

Re: First one as "Lefty"... I broke my painting hand...

Well, the verdict is in....
I returned from the doctor with instructions to take it easy and NO cast! It seems the area they were worried about is just badly bruised and sprained. There is no break! New X-rays confirmed it.

I am so relieved, but I must say, that the experience has taught me a lot and I think painting with two hands will be better than one!

Thanks for the support and encouragement everyone - it seems Christmas came early here this year......

Heh. Well, now you can work on two pieces at once.
