Awwwr. That's really sweet, Mal.
Is this an original type design or did you use a pattern?
I've seen lots of white and monochrome crocheting, and I wouldn't think I'd like a multicolored one... but, it's sweet.

(Yes, there are actual doilies in my apartment. From my grandmother, heh)

Lovely Mal! Truly! I would be very proud of that! & Gisela your cake looks good enough to...never mind... Did Joyce & Dominic give you creative license with it? those are the most fun. I like the photo on the cake, nice personal touch.I'll post one as soon as i can. Cheryl

Gisela:

Cool - hey, do you transfer photos onto icing? A friend of mine was amazed they could do that (it was edible, he claimed) but I couldn't tell him how it might have been done. He said it looked just like the original photo

just curious

Shriner, yes, you can transfer a photo onto a cake. It's done with a combination projecter/airbrush type of machine. The 'medium is a classic sugar water/food color comination. Cheryl

Cool! Do you have a pic of the machine or at least a close up of a cake you did with that process? I really am curious

Mal, that doiley is gorgeous. I have a collection of crocheted and tatting from my grandmothers and great aunts. I just love them around the house. Makes everthing seem so comfy

Gisela, that cake looks great. My mother in law made my wedding cake a few weeks ago. She has been decorating cakes for over 50 yrs. Keep up the good work

Mal, it's beautiful! I do a bit of filet crochet lace making from time to time - usually only in the winter when I'm snuggled up in front of the fire - but filet crochet is so easy, your doiley looks difficult - is it?

i love doilies.. especially multi-coloured ones

my very favorite doily has six hexagonal parts and all the hexagons have a coloured border.

i have them all over my house, too.. i somehow acquired a rather large one that i use as a centerspread for my dining room table.

mal, this is just lovely.

gis, the cake is fabulous!
