It’s the return of the Portrait Gallery!
What’s on your easel (or in your sketchbook) this month?
Show a finished portrait or one in any stage of progress. This thread is for showcasing your work; others will only critique your work if you request it.
So please show us what you’ve been up to this month. We’d love to see it.
Even if you have already shown it in the main portraiture forum, you are invited to showcase it in this thread, also, as this thread will remain in the Library Archives. (Portrait Swap WIP shots most welcome, too!)
And be sure to check out previous Portrait Galleries in the Archives. Lots of great work in there!
So… let’s get those portraits set up in the gallery….
Cheers, Lauren

This is of Dan — 11″ x 14″, in French Grey Derwent pastel pencil and black charcoal pencil.
after 1 hour, 10 minutes (just in grey):
after another hour, at the end of the session, adding the black charcoal:
Here is where I am now, after the second session, today. Add on another 2 hours. I worked with vine charcoal today to soften things and improve the lighter half-tones, as well as charcoal pencil. One thing I see that I’ll probably need to adjust is the light part around his left eye.
C’s & C’s welcome!
Cheers, Lauren

My grandchildren are a constant scource of inspiration so I thought I’d post this WIP here to the finished state. Pastel on Canson. Apologies for the huge images, I have no idea how to make them appear smaller.

Torrelles, SpainNovember 6, 2010 at 4:57 pm #509954Lauren- it great to see this come together- looks great!
Sandra- the modelling on the face is fabulous on this
Marianne- its amazing the difference that the dark background make to this- lovely
Larubia- these are brilliant- the colours and poses- the wallpaper in the background too is inspired
Here’s a quite self portrait in pastel 10x12inches. Took about one hour 20mins. I’m not happy with the eyes, a bit big I think:(
