I remembered to start OTL!!!:lol: So is anyone else feeling like January has been the longest month everrrrrr? I don’t know why? Maybe it’s all the gray. We haven’t had a lot of snow, but lots of gray skies and cold. Perhaps I just need an extended period of sunshine. I dawned on me yesterday that we still have all of February to get through and it made me kinda sad. I’m not one to wish away time, but….. c’mon spring!!! On a positive note, the snow geese are already on the move! They are waaaay early this year! So no matter what the groundhog says tomorrow, I’m listening to the geese. Spring is on the way!!!:lol:
(Oh, also, my computer has been repaired, so I’m back in business!)

Went to Curry’s, our local art store, a couple of days ago and was dismayed to find that they are no longer carrying Prismacolour. They have been undercut by Amazon. They are only going to sell Derwent. I will have to wait for the lightfast. It is freezing cold in this part of the world. I don’t want to wish the time away, but I am looking forward to spring.

Funny! “My” Curry’s discontinued Derwent Studio a long time ago, but sell a lot of Prismas. Now they also have Coloursoft and Procolour in open stock…

Amazon.ca is a strange business outfit…! I am addicted to Lindt dark chocolate, and when I can get it in Toronto stores at $3.50, Amazon has it at more than $13 each!!! I needed a special item that .com was selling for $34, and .ca had it at $99  I love their Customer Service, though. I ask them to call me, and my phone rings! I asked why the difference, suspecting it was because of the new tariffs. The person who helped me made a change and sent it to me for $50, and I never haggle…!

I am here trying not to blink, otherwise I’d miss the sunlight right now! We have had who knows how long a time with overcast skies, snow, freezing rain, the never-ending sound of a furnace working, and so on.

Fearing that my day was coming close to have eye cataracts removed, I couldn’t believe the ophthalmologist assured me I didn’t even need stronger glasses. Why, then, I need to use my clip-on magnifier even to read the newspaper??? He just advised increasing the illumination.

As a result we are now starting to use the Philips LED Daylight light bulbs equivalent to 100 W. They are wonderful. Expensive, but supposed to last all of 10 years. Still don’t know the logistics to have one shine on my drawing board, but that will come next.

That reminds me of a CP book author who advised to use for working the same kind of light that would be used on our pieces hanging on a gallery wall. Aren’t they all fluorescent? If I have the proper light to see my colours I will not worry about that…

I use LED daylight lamps and they are great – very bright light and completely true to colours. I have one that’s super-lightweight and portable so I move it around the house to wherever I am drawing, stitching or reading.

The portable lamps I have have a clamp, which is not practical all the time… What kind of lamp do you use that’s portable Claudia?

I may be wrong, but I believe you mentioned in a thread about contacting Stonehenge. Legion Paper is a big Stonehenge distributor, and they are the ones that sent me the Aqua samples without me asking. Many paper companies have a list of samplers they offer, and the prices used to be below $10 Cdn. each.

Why don’t you try this email address? [email protected] He is s kind soul…

I am sure many of you work at night… Any advice you can share about portable lamps? We have photo studio ones, but they are too awkward, and my surroundings and furniture are not adaptable to clamps.

In your experience, do LED light bulbs get hot, or can they be used in one of those lamps that advise NOT to use more than 75 W in them?

I’d really appreciate to hear from anyone!!! :)

Looking for “my” lamp in Amazon, I spotted a new book those who want to learn more about light and colour would like to add to their library, and at a reasonable price…

James Gurney is an award winning artist, admired for a long time, and his book Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter would be a great source of instruction and inspiration. He has another one: Imaginative Realism: How to Paint What Doesn’t Exist.

Not too cold today in TO, about 5 C, not even a breeze, and no clouds to be seen. As my “plane” crazy hubby told me, the sky was CAVU, Ceiling And Visibility Unrestricted sky in aeronautical terms…

Hi all. It’s Friday! Anyone got any plans for the weekend?

Fridathis is the small portable lamp that I have. It’s great – extremely lightweight and has two light-bars which can be folded together, or split apart. It was very inexpensive too, considering how good it is!

I’m not sure if The Daylight Company products are available on your side of the pond, but I’m sure you must have similar companies specialising in daylight simulation lamps. LED is definitely the way to go – they give excellent no-flicker bright light, they don’t get hot, very low energy consumption, and last for years.

Most LED daylight/craft lamps have fixed LEDs (so there’s no removable bulb). You can also buy LED bulbs to fit regular lamps and ceiling lights.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Claudia, I’ll look for it!

This new space I have is somehow restricted on horizontal surfaces, but I am sure I’ll find something to fit around me. I am just waiting for Amazon to deliver today some LED light bulbs I ordered…

A while back I saw a magnificent 1′ high Cooper’s hawk sitting very comfy on our fence waiting for birds to show up, and managed to take a photo without scaring it away. Here it is:
