Just finished this wall mounted carving. The cat is carved from an unknown timber a little like mahogany but much harder. The Vase is carved from Australian red cedar and the bracket with heart is from Kauri pine. The cat’s whiskers are holly. The colouring is water soluble artist’s oils and coloured pencil finished with thinned polyurethane and finally wax.
How cool! So many carvings I’ve seen don’t get deep enough in recesses but you got it right. Of course, I’m partial to cats even though it’s a tightly kept secret … but this is really lovely. I’m not at all familiar with any of the woods – not species we get around here in the US anyway.
