Moving Them Through the Grass

Here is one I did yesterday, moving the lonhorn through the tall grass. I used my knife for much of this which was a lot of fun. Oil on linen 24"x36"

Hi Becca - This is quite nice. I like the way you created depth with the large foreground and the subjects back by the horizon line. Well done. ~Don

I really like this! I can feel the calmness of the cattle moving along with a snack for every step. (Same for the horses. )

I like the tall and scrappy trees as well.

This is a very peaceful painting. I can hear crickets and smell the dry grass when I look at this. Beautiful work! I agree with Lisa, those trees are excellent! Good work!

Re: Moving Them Through the Grass

Becca..my first impression is: holy cow, I've never seen grass that tall! Out here we would call that a forest. Very nice work, I especially like how you have created great distance with the warm color of the grass and the far distant trees with the cool, light value. Good going.

Re: Moving Them Through the Grass

I've heard stories from the old timers (I mean the REALLY old guys) about stirrup high grass in this area but you'd be hard pressed to find much more than ankle high grass today. I think you've done a super job with this, Becca. I especially like the "window" in the tree line that shows what is further beyond. Adds real depth.

Re: Moving Them Through the Grass

mtrunner, thank you so much.

scatdaddy, I liked that window as well...likely left from a past storm.
This was in a game reserve, where native grass isn't regularly grazed. Though I have saw crp here over 6 foot tall. This year was a severe drought year though, so many native grass fields were much shorter.
