Re: Dadīs portrait

Thank you to all for wellcome me here and so much positive comments to my work.
Iīm interested in pastels about a year when i descovered this wonderful technique.
For this period iīve done four portraits of my dad. This one is the latest and most well done. My technique of painting comes from Daniel E. Greene and Gwennet Barth which learning videos i learning from. And many artists from this forum inspire me to painting portraits.
Paul

Re: Dadīs portrait

I would say that learning from Daniel Greene is about as good as one can get for portraits, he is a master. You've learned well, you have a beautiful technique and style.

Re: Dadīs portrait

Iīd like to share my progress experiece.
There is a point iīve learned from this painting.
Rough and quick strokes make better illusion of reality
than trying to exactly paint it.
Iīve got 90 Rembrandt portrait set and 20 otherones that i bought as a pieces.

Here is one close up pic to face. Skin itself contain from 3-4 layers
of diferent colors which are not smudged but overlaid another color so you can still see strokes under.
There is no face on close up pic , just strokes that make illusion of face.
Size of portrait is 40x50cm

I was at three month evening school of figural drawing from models last year.
Otherwise iīm an amateur.
Painting from model is most interesting to me, but not everyone is so patience to sit for hours. So model sit for me one hour each day. After a sitting i have a time to think what next.
I did not have any sitting commission yet, just paint my family.

Re: Dadīs portrait

hello
very very good painting .
i have not seen any of the videos , but i have seen Mr Greene
paint and own some of his books .
your work shows good observation and colour choices .

does the Rembrandt set have 538.3 (mars violet) ?
- i think that it is a good dark pastel to use in light and shadow .

i hope many people see your painting where you live .
there will be more people to sit for you , and commissions , i'm sure .

Ed :}
