I am curious to know whether or not the WetCanvas Banned Members can access these sites? If so, then it would seem THEIR techs might be able to help OUR techs...

That's actually an EXCELLENT question - one it would be well worth knowing the answer to, as it should certainly give some additional insight where the IP-block is occurring.

THEIR techs are OUR techs, though. As far as I can determine, all the F&W sites are covered by one pool of techs - one of the problems seems to be that there's no-one dedicated to this site, to pick though the code - tech support seems to be only run reactively, not proactively, it seems.

Is that it? Is that all?

What about:

What about making some sort of response to all the other members who've commented here?

Dave, that's exactly why F+W are looking for a Community Manager who would "... be actively engaged with the community at all times."

Summary
The Community Manager and Editor for Web Canvas will work in a dynamic, community facing capacity with one of the largest online art communities in the world. Wet Canvas has over 200,000 active members and averages 3.5 million + page views per month. This position will be crucial to the nurturing, growth and communication within the community. The Community Manager and Editor will be actively engaged with the community at all times. This position will help grow the property, participate in creating additional revenue generation opportunities, and help develop community driven products and services. In addition, this Community Manager and Editor will develop content for both the site and the email newsletter, as well as engage the internal Art Community to continually improve and facilitate the development of unique, market-focused content.
It all sounds so POSITIVE!!

Rather empty rhetoric . . .

I find the language in this ad very telling . . . notice the bolded content. It is all oriented around the bottom line of making the site more profitable for F&W, not meeting the needs of the artists without whom the site would not exist. Even in the phrase "the community driven products and services," the community is useful only as they exist to buy the products and services of the parent company F&W. "Community" is apparently only a buzz word which is supposed to make the sheeple feel better about being being in the corporate pen.

I used to be a lot more active here, but my interest waned just after it became apparent that the artists were appreciated only as purchasers of products and services, and there seemed to be no understanding that without the artists' contributions there would be no actual content to the site. Killing the goose (through neglect of their real needs) that lays the golden eggs comes to mind . . .

If there was a true interest in nurturing communication within the art community that created and makes up WC, then the parent company would be listening to the moderators and members. I hesitate to even say "parent company" because parents do nurture and promote well-being. Perhaps site owners is the better terminology.

I used to worry that something catastrophic in cyberspace would happen that would wipe out all the hard work and wonderful content that the artist members had created over the years. Now I see that it can be sheer neglect that the members are equally powerless to redress as well.

Sad, isn't it? . . .

Yes, and we almost did lose all of WC at one point when the system crashed.

I was afraid of the consequences of a corporation buying the website and now that ad does say it all. We artists are just our credit cards and spending power. Poor fools us.

CharM,
Thank You. That position description is for someone who wishes to be a scapegoat. There's no mention of any technical knowhow being needed. It's no wonder those positions are empty. My offer to put a team together doesn't include F+W.

Re: BANNED IP ADDRESSES - I can't even get on these pages to discuss

Well, I received an email from MarciaJane (a "banned" member) and she can access all the other F+W sites without any problems.

This proves to me the problem is on the wetcanvas server.

Incidentally I sought a second opinion and this was the response I got:
Quote:
If the problem is due to bogon filters, they must be out of date or
incorrectly applied. The bogon filters wouldn't block traffic to or
from 2.0.0.0/8. As you can see below, 2.0.0.0/8 is not listed by us as
a bogon:

<https://www.team-cymru.org/Services/Bogons/bogon-dd.html>

In fact 2.0.0.0/8 hasn't been part of our bogon lists since it was
allocated on 18 SEP 2009.

It may be the case that the provider in question has an outdated bogon
filter in place. That would be a very outdated filter, but still it is
possible. I suggest examining the web server for outdated filters
(perhaps in iptables), then ask the hosting provider for your web site
if they have any filters in place.
Doug

GREAT idea Char Makes perfect sense.

Perhaps this is where the problem lies Doug! Thank you for taking the time to dig deeper to try to solve this problem once and for all.

Let's all that it's found and soon.

I am so sorry to hear about this problem, it does seem that the powers that be, are really not interested in us at all.

If they can't fix this is there another site where the artists etc can meet?
