Re: Tangerines...wip

Great depiction of some yummy tangerines. Good color in these, a real rich orange. Please pass a slice. Excellent work.

Re: Tangerines...wip

Wow! This is going to be amazing. I love the reflected color on the leaves and the fruits, the orange on those green leaves is wonderful and so true. Great textures and detail. Can't wait to see what you do with the reflections on black and the interesting background! I know it'll be dark but the plate's even darker and it'll have a texture completely unlike that black ceramic. Interesting by contrast, I mean, not saying that it has to be brocade or something.

Re: Tangerines...wip

At this point, I'm pretty much finished with the tangerines, but I'll have to go back in at some point to adjust the odds and ends. I have started the reflections both to the left and right along the rim of the plate. The first layer of the reflection of the tangerine and the tangerine segments is layed in. I played with the left side of the picture and decided on a warm orange, making sure to darken the corners. The right side is still a work in progress. I put down a warm brown, then a deep violet followed by a burgundy. It may still be too light, but this is the stage that will make or break the shadow area for me.....in fact, I'll probably change the colors in the shadow area many more times until I'm satisfied.
Again...C & C always welcome. I value your opinions.

Re: Tangerines...wip

Lookin' good, Karen! I like the way this looks with the unfinished area of the upper right; it's an interesting contrast to the refined looking fruit. I know you probably won't keep it that way but if you did I wouldn't mind!

Re: Tangerines...wip

Thank you Donna and Nancy!
Here is the finished painting....I hope. I cleaned up the tangerines and leaves. The reflections were the easiest part. I wish I could tell you what colors I used on the right side of the plate, but there were too many.
This is only matted, not framed, so if you see anything amiss, I'm always open to your C & C. The actual shadow from the plate, on the right, is not as dead as it looks on my monitor.

Re: Tangerines...wip - FINISHED!

Oh wow! Karen, this is fantastic. It's even better than I imagined it. I love how you handled the reflections and the background. It's perfect! I can just imagine how many layers you used to reach those subtle shimmering colors in the shadow, but they are just perfect. Wonderful!
