Amador County Barn

Here's another watercolor I did for my Dad, it is of an old barn near the place where he grew up in the foothills of the Sierra's in Northern California. The barn has since collapsed.

Like a moment frozen in time. Wonderfully done!! Great use of color and the barn and tree are most wonderful.

Peace,

Lovely watercolor, Margie... I like how you treated your clouds, somewhat abstract and not 'fussed over'. This hit a nostalgic cord since my family is also from Northern California...

I spent 20 years in nothern California and scenes like this make me miss the country side there. Your sky is beautiful and the barn and trees are very well depicted. What a wonderful gift for your dad. How large is this piece.

Re: Amador County Barn

I KNOW that barn! I've been watching it and loving it for years.. and was heartbroken at its demise. I live in Amador County. (it is, afterall, a pretty small world.. LOL)

I can't tell you what an absolute joy it is to see that you painted it!!!

There's another old (yet still functional) red barn that I love, tucked back in the hills behind Amador City. (on my way home) I ought to send you a few photos that I shot of it.

There was also a 'grandfather of all oaks' not far from the barn - along hwy 16 - that I loved for years. .. then, during a particularly bad storm, it fell over. I kick myself for not having any photos of it. (thinking that I'd love to see you paint that too.. *sigh*) Since it was perched on top of a rise, I'm sure your dad would know which one I'm talking about. At any rate, please know how exciting it is for me to see your painting. Thank you!!

Re: Amador County Barn

I'm really glad to know that you remembered that old barn, Playm. I would love to see the photos you have of the red barn. I am painting barns these days. Right now I'm working on a pole barn from our area (Napa Valley). I remember that old oak on hwy 16, too. I'll enclose a photo of the barn that collapsed in case you ever want to paint it. Thanks for your encouragement.

Hi Margie
There are some interesting old barns and cowsheds where I am living in Western Australia. If you are interested in Australian examples, I would be happy to send you some photos.
To me, your watercolour has a Japanese feel to it. Ephemeral perhaps?
There's something about old buildings isn't there?
Regards
Graham

Re: Amador County Barn

I'd love to see some Australian barns, Graham. Thanks!

BTW, Sassybird, the piece is not that big, probably 8x10.
