Re: Woman

Just a few ideas, chose where you want the folds to be, make the appropriate dark centers of the folds and highlights. The sleeves I would put in a few folds where it goes over her arm maybe some others on the bottom of the long part of the dragged sleeve. I would make it lighter where it hugs the curve of her bottom. I would also make some dark folds in her skirt. Lovely work so far and good luck with the draping always a tricky thing but when you pull it off it looks great.
I like the overall look of this, the orb is very cool and you already did a lovely job on the shading and draping of the blue fabric. Just do what looks good to you!

Hi Becca! I think this is a good start, and Dianna has given yo usome really good ideas! Also, adding something to the background might enhance your picture as well

Re: Woman

Would you mind a digital paintover? I'm not always very good showing what I mean in words for this sort of thing.

Is this an acrylic painting?

Re: Woman

I think I went a bit overboard -- but I thought this had so much potential and when I started playing with it . . . it was a blast.

I made some tiny tweaks to her anatomy, adjusted her jawline, her nose, raised her waist and smoothed out her arm. But everything else was shadows and light.

I couldn't determine where you wanted your light source, so I decided to make her "wand" thing her light source. I made it all glowy and added highlights and shadows.

I darkened the background a LOT, to make her pop out. You should be able to do everything I did ( with your own style of course) with gouache -- although you might have to use a touch of acrylic for the brightest highlights.

Hope this helps!

Maeve

Becca I think that Maeves_Child has done some nice additions to your work. I think the warm reddish brown deep tones really do add a great deal to the background, I also like what she did with the light source being the wand/orb. But as always it’s your art do what you like and what makes you happy!

Re: Woman

Maeve that's brilliant, i love what you've done to it, gives me lots of ideas on how to finish it off.

Could anyone give me advice on how i can easily go back and add more colours to the background without accidentally painting over the edge of the figure?
