Who are your three all time favorite illustrators?

I am interested to see if there are certain illustrators whose names keep coming to the top of the list.
If you have links that show your favorite illustrators works that would be great.

Here are mine....

Bernie Fuchs

Frank Frazetta
http://images.google.com/images?q=fr...=ii&oi=imagest

N.C. Wyeth
http://www.bpib.com/illustrat/wyeth.htm

Okay I had to post this link too.... I like a lot of the illustrators mentioned here as well

Re: Who are your three all time favorite illustrators?

Nice Andrew! Good topic. I know there may be some here who have posted their faves before, but it's always nice to see what the newcomers think about their fave illustrators.

I don't have links, but I would share my thoughts. I have too many illustrators that come to mind, but will share the ones that I like to follow....

Norman Rockwell is probably the one who could have been mentor to me. His understanding of life, and how to paint it, was tremendous help to me.

Boris Vallejo seems to have my attention for what I would consider the Ultimate fantasy body. Some of his work can be static, but his attention to the human form is so inspiring. Frazetta makes that up by showing action in his illustrations, and I love his work, but his style is looser than Vallejo, which is not a bad thing, I just love how Boris handles the tightness of his work.

Keith Parkenson (sp) is also a fine illustrator of fantasy. His understanding of trying to convince us of what a dragon is, or an elf, or even a troll, is just awesome.

So many others that I cannot seem to get my thoughts together on them, but surely do have more that I would inspire to be like....

Hi Coolray. I almost put Norman Rockwell down too.
His autobiography "My life as an illustrator" is a great read for any young artist who is wanting some inspiration. I like Vallejo too... but prefer Frazetta's compositions and his amazing drawings.

Here are some Parkinson images...

I don't really know illustrators too well, so I can only say artists I know as comic book artists.
But they are;

Re: Who are your three all time favorite illustrators?

Lately I've been sorta gooing over David Mack everytime my bf takes me on a comic book shop trip (he collects comics and many manga series). http://www.davidmack.net/

As for fantasy art, Dorian Cleavenger has always been a favourite of mine. I think hes just so twisted, like I am lol Heads up Nudity! http://www.dorianart.com/

And ofcorse I have to mention the illustrator that really inspired me to draw and paint to begin with, John Sibbick. He's done some amazing illustrations in the natural history museum book of Dinosaurs. I've had that book since i was a wee little and I still have it, and use it often!

Re: Who are your three all time favorite illustrators?

Great contributions so far!!

It seems somewhat unfair to limit the thread to only three favorite illustrators so I'd like to suggest that if you have one or two more you can't resist adding or you run across someones work that you think we should see .. please post them.
I'm not a rule freak and the point of this for me is to get a general feeling of which illustrators past and present influence the way we work today.

Here's a link worth checking out. This illustrator paints traditionally and uses his computer like a traditional painter uses a brush.

http://www.goodbrush.com/mainpage/index2.htm

This is a big site... and I got lost in it for a while.

Cheers... Andrew Judd

Re: Who are your three all time favorite illustrators?

Hmm. I can't keep illustration work apart from storywriting. So, off the top of my head, here are some of my favourite writer/illustrators:
-Mick Inkpen (the guy who invented Kipper the Dog)
-Tomi de Paola (Strega Nona books etc.)
-Graham Oakley (The "Churchmice" books)

I think I'm a little more in the past for illustrators. W.T. Benda first, T.N. Thompson (Marilyn Monroe), then Henry Clive, Alex Schomburg, Stevan Dohanos, Mabel Rollins Harris... I could go on and on.

Re: Who are your three all time favorite illustrators?

So many great suggestions on this thread; enough to keep me busy for days! I wanted to mention that while I'm really bad at names, I do love looking at good illustration, so I regularly read the Drawn blog: http://drawn.ca/ They're always showcasing a wide variety of work.
Thanks again to everyone who's suggested their fave illustrators...I'm bookmarking like mad!
