Re: Scavenger Hunt # 570 Dec 27 - Jan 4

Jo: The orchids can last up to a week ... if you want them to last longer... you have to change the water after 3 days and trim of the stem end part a bit (getting of the rotted stem under the water). However, I am lazy to do that

Paul: Welcome back ... lovely sketches esp. your SP

EP: Wonderful fun vibrant set.

Jo: Wow... on those glowing pastel...

EP, clever finds. The maroon ribbon is velvety cool. Non-dominant hand work is super.

Paul, welcome back to 2019! Great job on the fan perspective. Honey jar - cute. Well done on the zipper and wow on self portrait.

Ai, interesting on the orchids.

Thanks, all.

Ai - the flowers and thoughts are beautiful. That market must smell exquisite.

Jo - Nice sketches, but to show where my brain goes I assumed that was bacon before reading. LOL Your tree looks beautiful. Lemons and lime in pastel simply jump off the screen. Hope that lit up your inspiration to paint.

EP - Your sp made me laugh. Again props on working without well with your non- dominant hand. Great collection of items and reference photos to boot.

Paul - Nice set of drawings and in various media. Love the strong confident lines in the ink sketch. Lots of patience on the zipper.
And definite WOW on the sp. Watercolor or acrylic?

Keep sketching
Joe

Thanks, all.

Ai, I like your coffee shop sketch a lot. I figured you would do the dragonfruit also. Nice. I saw one at our HEB grocery, but didn't buy .... or sketch. It was some months ago and I haven't looked again.

Paul, we are always happy to see you, whenever.... I post regularly as "homework". I haven't been painting so I sketch to keep me doing something.

Number 5, coriander or spice - Hot Shot Pepper
Number 6, fern or plant - this is recovering from the summer of no watering
Number 7, dragonfruit or other - grapefruit
Number 8, opening to something interesting - top of glass to pink grapefruit juice. The Texas pink grapefruit are so good, very smooth and sweet.

Ink and colored pencil, not to vibrant as coloring is boring.....

And a photo

Ai - the café sketch has life to it. Figured you might have dragon fruit. Great colors/

Ep - waves

Paul - Thanks for info. Really nice sp

Jo - Nice little composition. I like the sketch quality of the cp. Any vodka in the grapefruit juice? Devil

3 - lime - Rarely use fresh lime but use the juice on fish. So lime bottle. Added a bit of ink to complete.

Keep sketching
Joe

Re: Scavenger Hunt # 570 Dec 27 - Jan 4

Happy New Year everyone!!! You all have been busy.

Joe - I like that dagger brushes have such nice points. Nice work on the clementine in direct watercolor.

Jo - Thank you. You have been sketching up a storm. I like your ginger tea. Really nice fruit...those colorful ones and the grapefruit too.

EP - Thanks. Good sketches with your non-dominant hand...you do them so well. Nice egg with spice next to it just in case. Fun SP. Good selection of hardware. I know who to go to if I need to bolt something.

Ai - Lovely orchids. Do they have a fragrance? They are such pretty colors. I would have bought a bunch too. I like your sketch from the new cafe and that awesome dragon fruit. I saw one here at the market but they are so ridiculously expensive I can't justify buying it just to sketch and paint it. lol

Paul - Good to see you again. Nice sketches! Good to see a sp of you.

Not a lot of sketching of items that fit the hunt.
3 - teacup - watercolors and ink

Joan: Thanks... most commercial orchid kinds don't have much fragrance ...but I think some exotic breed may have nice fragrance. ...Lovely delicate teacup...your little roses are priceless.

#4 yellow and green -- our cucumber vine in our home planter ...watercolor & ink

Ai - Thanks. Love the vitality in the vine painting. Sketches are nice but love the clown in the cone. It is silly but you cannot help but smile.

Joan - the teacup looks so delicate, it has to be china. Love the roses so small yet detailed. Oh and the soft shading.

Keep sketching
Joe

Re: Scavenger Hunt # 570 Dec 27 - Jan 4

Paul - hello!

Jo - I've never heard of a HEB grocery. Yay your plant is surviving. Fun glass and good grapefruit cut open

Joe - hello - yay lime green lime juice bottle (I think that's what it is? )

Joan - hello - thank you. I think the more practice the non-dominant hand gets the better it draws. I enjoy how I need to slow down and be mindful. I also need to turn the surface because my hand is too stupid to change orientations. Oooh pretty teacup and saucer. Royal Albert China?

Ai - yay for cucumber vines - I grew cucumbers for the first time this summer. They were prolific and productive. I've seen makeup sponges/applicators that shape. Do you find they are more helpful than the wedge-shaped ones? Clever for partly open/closed. I remember those dolls that slide up and out of a cone.
