Re: The Spotlight - April 2018 - In Memory of Paula Ford

I realize I'm jumping in late here but I'm a newbie to the site only just joining just over a month ago and seeing this thread for the first time. Thank you Don for your wonderful and thoughtful tribute to the talented and beautiful artist that Paula was.

I got to know her through our plein air group here in Old Forge about three years ago and right from the get go you could see that there was something special about her. At the end of our sessions we would always have a show and tell wherein she would explain her methods and thought process. She was always encouraging and constructive in her critique, always the teacher. On days when we didn't have the urge to paint we would be fishing or joking around, no wonder our venues were mostly set on the water.

As you might know she was the manager of On line Juried Shows and worked from home and she loved it- always supportive and patient...well...almost always, she could have a fiery streak at times!!

She loved being in Old Forge, her home in the Adirondacks where she could fish, hike and paint in some of the most beautiful areas on the planet. She had a special bond with her cats and her outdoor friends-deer, birds and squirrels.

And, yes Don she became quite proficient at oils too. You could spot a Paula Ford a mile away. She began to paint quite regularly during her last few months using water soluble oils, in January we started doing a painting a day until her pain got so she couldn't concentrate, so sad. Just after that we found out that she had pancreatic cancer. Terrible blow, She completed about fifteen paintings done that she was able to post on her blog.

About mid February the pain got so bad that she ended up in the hospital and it was all downhill from there. Life is rotten sometimes, she had so much to give and was just starting to painting regularly. We have lost a great person, artist, teacher, friend and mentor. Bless you with love, we will miss your joyful spirit and beautiful smile.

Thanks again Don and others for your kind thoughts and words.

Peace, Rondax (Ron)
