Calling this finished.
The orange bar in the closeup is 1cm. Definately the most (and unreasonably) time intensive work I've ever done, guess I have to start working somewhat less fine...! But have learned a lot in the process.

How do all those ripples work for you looking in?
It is a little - unrestful - and the main subject doesn't really pop out; though having to look more than once was one of the reasons I chose the image. C&C welcome and encouraged!
And as I do use inks for reaching better tonal values and softer transitions, though scratching does its part too - would this qualify as scratchboard as defined by the ISSA?
("The majority of the values within the artwork should be achieved by varying the amount of surface layer that has been removed or left. Reapplying of transparent mediums over the initial scratching is permissible, but the integrity of the underlying scratching should remain visible.")

Ann, thanks -also for the tips and links for spraying in air's ringed tails thread, will be sacrificing more test boards before spraying the real ones.
