Re: Oliver WIP

Well, I finally have an update to share on Ollie. It's been easy to put this drawing off lately. The ear has been tricky to get right. Also, I've been in more of a sculpture mood lately, I guess. Anyway, here is how this looks now.

C&C welcome. Thanks for looking!

A close up.

Re: Oliver WIP

Here's another update. Ugh, this feels like a serious ugly stage! The right eye is in place, and I am happy with how that's looking, but that left eye...yuck. I just can't seem to get it right. This portrait is much more difficult than I anticipated. The good news is that I'll have learned a lot from this drawing!

The nose is so-so...but I'm still working on it. The angle of Oliver's face keeps throwing me off. My eyes keep fighting my brain on what should go where. It's been something else, this challenge.

Anyway, C&C are greatly appreciated...especially at the moment, because this is looking pretty odd to my eyes.

Thank you for looking!

A close-up of the eyes and nose, none of which are finished quite yet.

Re: Oliver WIP

Here's another update. I'm feeling better about this now, and though the left eye may still need some minor changes, I've moved on to the rest of the face in the meantime so I don't get overly frustrated.

Those delicate layers of fur and the subtle stripe in Oliver's coat are such fun. I'm enjoying working on this again, which is a relief.

C&C welcome. Thanks for looking.

Re: Oliver WIP

The head is now mostly in place, and I'm working my way down the neck. Those fur flakes are going to be fun!

C&C welcome. Thanks for looking.

Re: Oliver WIP

I've now reached those luxurious layers of fur going down the neck and chest on Oliver. It's more complicated to keep all these layers straight than I expected...I'm just taking one chunk of fur at a time.

C&C welcome. Thanks for looking!

Re: Oliver WIP

Thanks very much, Sue.

Thanks, Venkat. It's been an interesting challenge with the fur, but a fun one.

Re: Oliver WIP

After really working on this the past few days, I think my portrait of Oliver is finished. The fur has been an interesting challenge, and a learning experience. The whiskers, of course, were a bit scary, but they did add the finishing touch.

I still welcome C&Cs, but I think I am ready to call this scratchboard finished. It has been fun, and I thank you all for following along and for the comments.

This was done using primarily a #11 X-Acto knife, with the addition of a blunter scratchboard tool for the thick whiskers.

Thanks for looking, and now, I ought to give Oliver a treat for posing so prettily for me.

Some close-ups.
