Re: Loony Loons!

OK folks, I'm late but the good point is, I can now rise this interesting thread to the top .

Char, your loons are beautiful, alive and magnificent! I can understand why you cannot understand the rejection, especially as the jury decided among digital versions only. I intend to send my latest "It wasn't me!" to a jury soon (first time!), and already thought the realism might not be what they are after nowadays. So I might have my rejection experience soon! They want to have prints in A4 size first, maybe it's better than digital files?

Your dragonflies prove this trend towards loose painting, I think. Or maybe it's only a coincident? Anyway, I congratulate you for the sales - maybe the dragonflies wish to tell you something ? I battle for more loosyness all the time, yet very often find myself on the realism or illustration track... I think we cannot force anything, yet should leave our comfort zones every now and then for new discoveries... We all are unique: both artists and viewers, so I have no doubt in the right context you loons would have sold in a second! On the other hand - you, your family and friends can now enjoy it, so actually it ended well!!!. Be proud and happy for your skills, and don't give a second of your thoughts to that disappointment. Follow your own path, whatever it is. You cannot please them all!

With all your paintings you add a bit more happiness here. Thank you for sharing!
Carpe diem!

These paintings are beautiful. I am amazed they were rejected because I have seen some really dodgy stuff being accepted for shows elsewhere! The wings on the dragonfly is especially pretty.

3 great paintings. My wife would have bought the dragonfly, she loves them. Our business boat was named Dragonfly and my sailing boat is Dragonfly.

I love what you've done with a limited palette - amazing! Sorry about your rejection - you deserved much better.

And I really like that background on the dragonfly!

Re: Loony Loons!

Love the three, and especially the dragonfly though this post is about the loons!

Loons are fabulous. My only wish is to see a bit more of the water impact here, only to the extent of extending the line left and right of the bird somehow.

Doris, once these pieces are waxed, I cannot change them in any way. But, I always take advice on board for my next compositions!

Once again, thanks so much for all the comments and views!

Re: Loony Loons!

Char, I love the loons and have painted one from a photo. I love to hear the sounds they make on he lake. Mine is part of my signature, so it's small. Was up in Maine this past summer and saw some of them on the lake while I was on the kayak. Love the way you painted them.

Re: Loony Loons!

These are some amazing works, as others have stated love the dragonfly, so vibrant and the loons are striking as they should be

If I can maybe add something that I see that might help, the only thing that bugs me really I don;t mean to take away from the awesome work but the first loon painting, the back wing where it goes behind the loons body. I'd suggest darkening it / giving it some shading because, at least on the board posts, it gives an optical illusion where the back wing looks like it's the front wing etc, there's no breakup between the body and the wing. This is probably due to the black wing and white spots, makes it seem as if the pattern continues down to the body vs having a division there.

But maybe I am crazy otherwise some amazing works here!
