Hi Patrick. Thanx for your words and yes, I do use only pencils. I like Pastels texture, smoothness and ability to mix up and blend colors together is just amasing. I have some "carrés" but I use them only for great size projects or wide surface application.
I love Hypper-realism but I'm sure I have a lot to learn (especially from mistakes ). And I also like challenges, that requires patience and motivation, like "Honfleur" recently.
I'm not so disappointed with "Tanya's" now but, I guess the contrast has to be increased for the face.
Anyway, from my point of view, I think you should post your WIP here, so that anyone can objectively give coment and advices. One can improve a lot, this way. So good luck to you and I'm waiting to see your progression.

Re: Tanya WIP

I painted my Mother with oils in Black and white with drybrush technique.
http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/show....php?t=1310702.
That was my best painting to my opinion. New to pastels so hard to beat for now.will post my w.i.p of the pastel portrait i am making of my Son now. Read That you have 90 pencils of the derwent brand. Here i can only find 72 colors but must be enough.

Glad I came in late to see you getting almost finished. A really skillful rendering, with wonderful color.

Welkome back, Nice update. Bought pastelmat but is verry different to work with. It Eats my pencils at high speed. Love the smooth surface.

Re: Tanya WIP

Thx for coments. Pastelmat is a wonderfull card but does not suffer any mistakes, especially if one uses a wrong type of pencils. Hard ones likes PitPastel from FaberCastel is far too hard with Pastelmat. I know from experience! With Derwent pastel pencil range, it's perfect.

Re: Tanya WIP

Eric, this portrait of Tanya is spectacular (helps a little that you have such a beautiful daughter).

Thanks for posting the WIP. I'm not brave enough to try portraiture, but it's tempting after seeing this! Can't wait for the finish!
Kris
