Post Project Discussion: WC ! ANIMEshiyon !!!

A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: WC ! ANIMEshiyon !!!
Project Leader: baquitania
Relative Difficulty: Irrelevant
Type Restrictions: Comic
Medium: Any Medium
Subject: Other
Days open for signups: Always
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited

Description:

Animeshiyon is the japanese word for a style of animation we call ANIME for short. For those of us who can remember the days of Gigantor and Speed Racer, it was just the doorway of things to come... Now with mainstream japanese imports like Pokeman, Princess Mononuke & YU-GI-OH! ANIME has become a growing part of our visual culture.

But as some of us know this did not just pop up over night or over the past 10 years. Nope "we " who love ANIME, know the real titles of obscure shows, films, games and comics (or Manga, the japanese equivalent).

However this project is not a fan art one, this is for original characters, sketches, and even stories for the ambitious to show.

What I would like to propose is that we feed off each other's input, by including artwork, then maybe some character background on what we've depicted, and for the adventurous... To make your next post here including someone else's character. IN THIS WAY, we'll almost make our own WC Manga...

SO for example if You do a drawing of a female samurai, and I do one of a panda in a mecha. Then we can do as our next post, both our characters interacting...

One of the beauties I think of ANIME is that it's easy to reproduce, not like we'd be copying each others Rembrandts. It's just that personally I would love to see a character I designed, redrawn by another artist and vice versa. Think of this as an excersize in cartooning and story telling which is something we could all learn more of...

I have included several links on learning to draw ANIME, and thanks to some other fellow WC members, a few links on where to see some great examples...

By the way, feel free to draw yourself, or another WC member. Use any style or genre (mecha, modern, fantasy) of ANIME you prefer, and ofcourse any medium, for those of you doing digital work, help us all out and show us some progress pieces in seperate threads in the Illustration Forum.

I have also include a link for Japanese Baby Names, if you are stuck on what to call your creations... and an ANIME dictionary link for common terms to explain such things as chibi, super deformed and who my ICON for this project is... (wink wink)

But enought stall, and so Wet Canvas!?

...HAJIME MASHOU!!!

(let's get started)

PS: I will post more links in the discussion thread... but these you will have to copy and paste in order to go to...

I was gonna start a project like this one a couple months back (but for manga).. I guess I'll join in on this one then. In the mean while you can check out my little beginners tutorial that fetaures a cute litle chibi character in a monkey/cat costume! http://hem.bredband.net/matsam/tutorial/general.htm

Now speaking of anime (as in actual animation) - I'm working on that thoo - but it's thoo soon to show any progress pics at this time...

mata ne!

Great tutorial, Captan!!! Interesting coloring style - I'm so used to seeing cell on anime that it's nice to see a change!!

thanx, and yeah I like to think of cel-shading as a compromise as shading "normally" would be thoo difficult to pull of nicely in animation - so I try to avoid cell-shading allthogheter. (unless I would make an actual animation of course)

Yah, I could understand that. I have too much fun doing shading and highlighting "the old fashioned way" that I don't think I've ever even used dodge 'n burn. It looks good, though.. Great job with the candle lighting..

Orchid,
Saw you were the 1st to post anything in the Anime project, I like her. The hair over the one eyes gives her sort of a ..... 'come hither' look hehe. Well Done.

I'm not really sure what I'm doing since this is my first time being in a project, but here is a picture I did quick two days ago.

I'll try to get some more, in a more anime style. ^^
