Re: Johannes - Student Critique Posts Only

I was recently in Hawaii with my daughters and took over 2000 photographs. Trying to honour the beauty of a place is an artist's joy and pain. I went with the 'feeling' ..welcome improvements. Thank you.
ps. In looking at this myself I see perhaps the figures are lined up too much ??

I like the story book aspect to this. Donna would you post the original photo?

Re: Johannes - Student Critique Posts Only

This is a combination of several photos for interest sake. The peaks in Hanalei are often shrouded in mist and one cannot tell where the land is and where the sky begins. Every time you turn the mist lifts and you see another peak. It is beyond beautiful. Photos do not do justice.
The third one is file photo. That's me in the first photo ..hah.

Donna do I have your permission to use the third picture for next Paint Along March 22?

The last one is file photo from the internet. When I was there the mists were heavy and I wanted to see what it looked like without the mist.
It is copyright free .

I see your painting made it into the Artist Daily newsletter. Congratulations! The person that sends these newsletters used to be the editor for the "American Artist" magazine. They were bought out by FWMedia the company I work for. They kept Courtney though to continue sending the newsletters. This is good for your bio.

Jo, loved this last session. I had seen Walt Disney's Cinderella lately and fell in love with the night scenes with the white trees. I'm calling this "Winter Fantasy". Looking forward to your next Paint-Along. Nancy Pink

I am "stoked". This watercolor received one of the top awards in a National Competition. The 73rd WSA Annual National Exposition. There were 127 artists from 27 states that submitted entries. Juror Jeff Bass, NWS selected 75 from 237 entries for the Exposition. He selected thirteen for awards. I received the Juried Member Award #1.

Re: Johannes - Student Critique Posts Only

This is another little one I did over the last week from my vacation. I am thinking the values on the front rocks may be too dark in value. The rocks there are lava and dark. ...but maybe not for the painting ?
