Re: May challenge for Pen and Ink

Mike, Kay, Christel, Jim - Thank you!

Jim - I see your Campanula looks quite busy, the background sort of overwhelms the flower. You are right about trying things out. After I posted I worked on my root, now mine looks overwhelmed LOL. Maybe Christel's idea of a wash on either one would be a good idea!

Re: May challenge for Pen and Ink

I'll be back to comment later but these are all very nice. Here's my version of the Sedona picture. Approximately 7" by 10". For the most part, done using a Sakura Pigma Micron 03.

Re: May challenge for Pen and Ink

Marshall, your Sedona piece is very nice, well done.

To everyone about my Campanula with the dark background: I do appreciate the suggestion of a wash as an alternative to the dark lines. I think that is a better way to go. And Kay, your bread and coffee maker are proof positive of what a little color can do!

Unfortunately, Higgins Eternal is not waterproof so adding some washes at this stage would be quite the dramatic change But I do agree that a little color on the flowers would help bring them out of the background. I shall keep these much appreciated suggestions in mind for future drawings.

Now I need to seek out a good waterproof ink that works well in dip pens. I've tried some of the acrylic inks and they don't seem to flow very well in a dip pen.

Jim

Kay - beautiful! Glad you posted it.
Marshall - well done with great shading.
Jim - water soluble works even better. Look at my post http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/show....php?t=1427899

Re: May challenge for Pen and Ink

Jim

Higgins makes a waterproof India Ink, I have a bottle here on my desk. And it was what I used way back when I first started using Pen and Ink, when I was a teenager.

Not sure where you can buy it in Canada, I am in the US, and got my bottle from Dick Blick.

I like acrylic inks, but they require that you clean the nib occasionally while inking as the ink will dry on it and clog the tip. That said waterproof India ink does the same thing, so keep a container of water or pen cleaner at hand when using either type of ink for your art work.

Jim, Good job with the Campanula.

Kay, I love the addition of watercolors to your "Just out of the oven" sketch. Especially the highlight and texture of the bread. Well done.
