Devoid of Vitality

Next week I will be dropping this piece off to a local show: Creative Expressions for Peace and Justice.

very mysterious... love it!

I always like something you can look at and just barely make it out - then you keep staring hope to find the next little bit.

Re: Devoid of Vitality

brainsommers, Thanks. This piece is about the emotional emptiness that a child experiences after they have been neglected or abused by a loved one and/or caretaker. I didn't want to just paint black on canvas or art board and that represent the emptiness because its not the cut and dry, its much more complex than that. I opted to paint the deep marroon in layers because it better reflected the emotion and complexity I was after; starting with a thin wash of blue and the subsequent layers being of transparent red.

Re: Devoid of Vitality

You are probably the same artist who did those other studies in red that I liked so much (I can't remember the names here yet). Unfortunately, this one is too dark for me to make anything out for comment.

Re: Devoid of Vitality

Sean T, yep that is me I think. This piece is about emotional emptiness of abused and neglected children, therefore it required colors of lower key. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Nice job. This one immediately implied dried blood to me. The variations of the colour are effective and I bet the texture is compelling in person.
