Mine's not permanent, and I'm not willing to bring an iron pipe in at the end of the day!
I was going to run iron pipe through the foundation and install a shutoff, but then I realized that the gas line is right above my workspace, so whenever I get around to it I'll just run a T off the gas line. I just moved my studio into the basement from the garage a few weeks ago, so I haven't made anything semi-permanent yet... it's never going to be truly permanent, as it's going back out into the garage next year. The pipe you want is (and I haven't read page 2 yet so forgive me if ten other people have already said this) black iron pipe. You can get it at Home Depot in a number of sizes, it's VERY inexpensive, and easy to use.
