Since I got the sample packs of artist-grade watercolor paper, I've played around with watercolors, trying to practice different techniques.
A few days after the sketch at the Monastery Beach plein air painting, I did a quick lunch sketch.
This was done with Derwent Watercolor pencils on either Strathmore Mixed Media paper or Canson XL Watercolor paper. The fun I had doing this little sketch first got me doubting if I really like using watercolors more.
One day when we were sitting at a cafe I had my watercolors with me. I saw the autumn trees in a distance.
This was done with Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolors on Canson XL Watercolor paper.
One time when I was tired of practicing watercolor techniques, I used my watercolors to do a copy of one of Monet's paintings. Here is my attempt at it:
At the end of the year we went on a ski trip to Yosemite National Park. Not being a fan of downhill skiing, I spent the day painting. Here are the two paintings I did that day:
These two were done using Cotman paints (that I had put into the Mont Marte Folding Palette) on Lanaquarelle paper. When painting on the rougher side, it is definitely not my favorite paper.
