Re: Your Best Work For 2016

I did this for the monthly Animal Wildlife Challenge. Being a slow painter, I only do several per year. What I picked as a "simple" subject was not as easy as I thought.

This is a watercolor on a 7.5 x 11 inch sample of Fabriano Uno 300 lb (640 gsm) rough. The sample is about 15 years old, so maybe the current paper is more forgiving. The texture did not seem rough to me at all (especially compared to Arches), and any lifting damaged the paper easily. I thought the heavy weight paper would hold the water and blend better, but that didn't work nearly as well as I would have expected. Anyway, that is my excuse and I am sticking to it!

"Scotsdale Show" Reference photo from annual Arabian horse show a few years back, Scotsdale, AZ. 20"X24" It's the only thing I finished that year! Was a gift for my sister. She was going to buy a print of an old one that I did years ago so I painted her a new one. Acrylic.
