Flowers: Paint a geranium

Most of us have had a pot of geraniums at some time. Several artists of the past have painted geraniums.

This month, the project is to paint a geranium

1. from life (your own geranium)
2. from reference photos
3. from art of the past.

Any medium, any style welcome.

Cheer up August with sunny geraniums!!

I'll post some reference photos next...to get those ideas rolling.

Beautiful, Tyree. I love the contrast of the dark background. The little lovers statue is marvellous and compliments the softness of the geranium flowers. A super drawing!! What size?

I was hoping to try painting a geranium from life....waiting for the flowers to bloom! Later...

I like to work small too, Tyree. Have been trying to go bigger for years. Very nice pencil work...love the little statue.

Re: Flowers: Paint a geranium

A start on a study of geraniums from life... 'Geranium in a vase', watercolours, around 7 by 10 ins., on paper.

I might try a pot of geraniums...a lot more complicated with all the leaves and flowers. I simplified this one to try out colours and technique.

Re: Flowers: Paint a geranium

Nice pencilwork, Tyree – love the statue.

June, I really like the softness of your geranium in vase study.

You’ve been busy with the acrylics, Janet – wonderful colour on the first and I love the 3 pots on the windowsill – looks like my kitchen window, only I don’t have any geraniums, just peppers, parsley and cyclamen on mine.

Re: Flowers: Paint a geranium

I agree with inky...Lovely colour and design on your first one Janet.

I love the window sill with pots...I've been taking cuttings of geraniums from one plant I bought last year...and now I have a windowsill a bit like yours!

Re: Flowers: Paint a geranium

such a contrast between Junes, and Janets....Junes is so delicate in colour and design simply stunning piece.....whereas Janets is bright and bold in colour ..wonderfully done both of them....tyree
