Re: Monthly OP Sketch Thread May 2012

E-J, the liquid and reflection and glass look is there, regardless of the eclipse. Nice one.

Cory, thanks for comments. I'm not going to do more on them. They're just doodles for practice. And usually, I prefer the sketchy look than the pasty look.

Btw, I want to thank you for your inspiration. I've gathered around 20 plus pieces of my work and put it on a circuit of exhibition starting next week around my two cities at businesses, centers and coffeeshops. I've been busy framing them that I haven't had time to sketch the last couple of days. And I'm happy to say, out of my 20 plus pieces, almost half of them are oil pastels. The balance is soft pastels and only a couple are mixed media.

I wish I had drawn my landscapes/waterscapes at least 11x14 inch and preferably 16x20 inch. Landscapes has to be large to be pretty. The frame has to be at least 3-3.5 inch around wood/gold/black to set it off or it looks too skimpy.

The animals one, I have a few 5x7 and I put them in 8x10 inch frames and black mat is perfect for my black paper. If I frame it plain without mat at 5x7, it's not stylish enough. Good learning exercise.

Re: Monthly OP Sketch Thread May 2012

back to OP's after a year or so.... I didn't have something to draw so I've decided to do a self-portrait from the mirror. It doesn't look like me but I'll certainly try again... it's fun!
~30 minutes using senns in a cheap sketchbook...

Amedee, fun cartoony piece! Good expression too.

This one is the mangled study of my model head lying down with an unfamiliar angle done in Stabilo Woody 3 in 1 crayon, colored pencil and watercolor.

Now I have revitalized it with Portfolio oil pastels, Cretacolor Nero oil pencil and Daniel Smith watercolor and Yarka student watercolor. A quick salvage.
