    Howdy:wave:

Welcome to the July Monthly Challenge! We welcome all mediums and skill levels in this challenge, so please feel free to join us. If you’re new, jump right in – the more the merrier. If you’re returning, welcome back! Glad to have you!

Please offer encouraging feedback on one another’s artworks, but don’t give any harsh critique unless it’s requested by the artist. The photos this month are mine with some from morguefile free photos (no attribution required). I hope you find some inspiration in them. Draw or paint them as they are, or crop them, edit them, mix them up, or create your own compositions. I’m really looking forward to seeing what everyone will do for the Challenge this month! Happy creating!

Have many photos of the Australian version of these. Never tried to paint one … yet!

Oooh! Eye candy! Thanks a million for hosting for us this month, Kay! I see so many I want to try my hand at. Beautiful – the horses, the cattle, the adobe, the barn…where to begin? Wonderful selection! I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone does this month.

Outstanding selection, Kay. Thanks! I couldn’t wait – I was just up in Ruidoso a few months ago. Thinking of moving back…

Nice work Skylar – love that donkey!

Beautiful work on both of these, Skylar! That adobe is beautiful, and the donkey looks thirsty! ;) Love them both. You do such wonderful work.

Wow Skylar! The donkey looks really fabulous in his arid desert landscape and the adobe ladder and pot are glowing in the light that only New Mexico has. If you do move back we’ll have to get a plein air painting event going if you like that; lots of places there to choose.

Here is the rodeo bull, not easy to do from a b&w image ;) but hope it reads okay. Size 11×15 Lanacquarelle hot press paper/Daniel Smith watercolors.

I was like, :), yes I’ll try this … until I saw the pics.

Might try one of the horses, because I am brave!

Interesting photos to choose from. Might just try a few of them. Thanks

                        Super photos…. Thanks, Kay.

Skylar, the donkey is so much alive. The ladder is something I love about NM. Thanks for doing that one!

Kay, your rodeo scene is perfect!

                        Skylar are you near there?

Anyway, hope to paint something for here.

I always enjoy your work Skylar: particularly Ruidoso.

Kay that is an excellent watercolour. Clever use of the blues against orange/ browns – the comps bring out the sunny atmosphere. The subtle tones on the bulls hide is a triumph.

I am anti- Rodeo but very pro your painting.

As long as there is light, I will paint it.

This is my shot at the New Mexico Sky (image c/o KreativeK). A wonderful image for going crazy with wet-on-wet.Thanks Kay.

I am working on a different type of paper to my usual (Not and rough) and it presents a performance closer to hot pressed – it’s rather fun, and was a father’s day present. Who doesn’t like paper as a gift! I took a few liberties with the foreground and horizon.
